INTRO / CR MEME MAY 2024
INTRO MEME
Welcome to Expiation and come on down! We're thrilled to have you here! This intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.
The SOTG for May is HERE, with changes and where the game is going for the month. Feel free to browse around if you haven't already, and check out the MAIN NAVIGATION for more detailed info about the game itself.
MAY EVENT
MAY EVENT SUMMARY
WOULD YOU CARE TO TEST YOUR METTLE?
The tablets don’t normally play ads, but on May 5, they do. Everyone receives the same image at the same time, as if a pop-up ad has been sent out to every device:
PUT YOUR SKILLS TO THE TEST. Join us for the CHALLENGE OF THE CENTURY! Sign up now!
There is no other information given. Tapping on the tablet’s screen outside of the ad will make it go away with no effect; players can choose to have it appear only once, or persistently. “Sign up now” is a button, and when tapped (either on purpose or by accident), the ad just…goes away. How odd.
THE TOWER
On May 20, anyone who signed up for this strange ad, whether intentional or not, wakes up on the ground floor of a tower with no way out and stairs leading upward. They’ll find doors as they climb, and behind each of these doors is a challenge. The goal of the tower will be simple, as explained to each character: there are four categories of challenges (outlined below). Each competitor must win one of each challenge type to conquer the tower, at which point they will be given a reward.
We leave the nature of these challenges up to you, but the following details will be the same for each challenge:
One, each challenge falls under one of four categories, outlined below. The size, nature, and scope of these challenges is left up to you, and can fall under any of these categories. You can do as many or as few as you would like.
Two, characters will find themselves facing off against another character, in direct competition for each of these challenges.
THE CHALLENGES
Wands. Challenges in the wands category focus on will and creativity. This includes creative solutions to problems, tests of resolve, examining accomplishments, and exploring what is important to your character.
Swords. The swords category centers reason, logic, wisdom, and intellect. This category also emphasizes adversity and problems, feeling trapped, and situations of oppression/cruelty.
Cups. Challenges in this category might pertain to spiritual matters, emotion, love, and examining your past or your feeling. Cups can encourage characters to face feelings head-on, or to focus on memories, whether accurate or not.
Coins. Emphasizing material matters and possessions, this is a category that focuses on physical, tangible challenges. These don’t have to be related to money; anything with high stakes (tests, games, etc) as well as challenges of physicality can fit into the category.
The categories are broad by design; we encourage you to think creatively about how you set up your challenges, and what category they may fit under best! Not all of these have to be physical fighting challenges, either. They can be any situation where one character is directly compared against another. Some examples: squats competitions, knitting the longest scarf, rap battles, test scores, the quiet game, challenges to not fight or not touch things, “the floor is lava,” races, really the sky and your imagination is the limit.
COMPETITION RULES
Winning. What determines a challenge win will vary based on the challenge given. If the win condition is to best your opponent in battle, you win by doing that! But if the challenge is “do not fight,” then winning a battle against a competitor could make you lose the challenge. We encourage you to be creative with challenges and win conditions.
Three strikes. Everyone has a loss now and then, but losing three times will kick a participant out of the competition. Not everyone can emerge a winner!
Knockouts and death. Strangely, death does not seem to be a permanent condition within the tower. Characters who die will wake up just as if they were knocked unconscious, unscathed and ready for the next round.
Forfeit. Characters can choose “fuck this, I’m out” as an option at any time! But you can’t reenter the tower once you leave.
Draws. If two characters tie, neither wins and neither loses. No one will collect a win for the category, but it doesn’t count as a loss either! They find themselves back on the tower steps, climbing to their next challenge.
Determining winners. We encourage you to determine who wins each challenge individually by whatever means makes most sense to you.
Leaving the tower. Characters who decide to leave, or characters who are eliminated from the competition, will wake in Aldrip to find that very little time has passed in their absence, no matter how long it seems like it’s been.
THE TOP OF THE TOWER
More information will revealed about winning the competition when the log goes up.
MEANWHILE, BACK IN ALDRIP…
The mAPP application on tablets has gotten an upgrade along with the rest of Expiation. However, it doesn’t always seem…accurate? Sometimes it seems to add buildings, roads, or even whole neighborhoods that aren’t actually there. Sometimes it puts a location pin on areas outside of town that you’ve definitely never been to…they don’t always seem to even exist.
It also seems to have added a percentage at the bottom, indicating how much of the map you’ve actually been to. Here’s a fun fact: even if you’ve been to every nook and cranny in Aldrip, even if you’ve walked every street and every district, the percentage tops out at 95%. It never goes any higher. Strange! But that’s fine. It’s probably just a weird little bug…right?

Suze featuring Shinjiro Aragaki from the Persona series
Player: Suze
Contact:
Anything Else?: I like to think I'm funny. I talk about magnets a lot. I am EST and will either be TAGGING ALL THE TIME or like unable to tag for a week so you know. stay flexible.
Character: Shinjiro Aragaki
Canon: Persona 3
Canon Point: October 4th, iykyk
Crime: Loitering.
Background: Cranky teen dealing with trauma through inaction and depression pulls an uh-oh and wakes up in Expi! After 6 months here he's chilled out some and basically come to the conclusion that this world is probably some fake digital bullshit and he probably isn't "him" so much as just as some virtual copy. He's remarkably OK with that, because it means nothing actually matters so do whatever. Cooks good. Dry sense of humor. Kind of a cagey asshole still. Come be his friend.
Abilities: He can summon a giant monster out of his brain that smashed things, but usually doesn't.
Plans: COME DO INSANE CHALLENGES WITH ME ON THE EVENT. See sub thread below for ridiculous challenges suggestions, and feel free to add your own.
I have no current concrete plans!! Shinjiro is pretty settled (aside from not having a home RN but dwbi they're getting a house like this week or next), helping Mitsuru with casino take over, just kind of chilling post organ plot and trying not to think about how he sort-og-accoidentally-sort-of-on-purpose killed a clown. That surely will never come up again or be a problem in any eay.
I love new CR and I love writing dumb shenanigans...!!!
How can you run into my character? He's absolutely going to be stuck in challenge land so that will be an easy way to spring off new CR! Aside from that he takes monster hunting jobs, he'll be "working" at the casino once it's renovated, and he loiters around town people watching. Also a member of cooking club and TWAT club.
???:
Old men don't like Shinji's vibes, smfh

- A cooking game that Kei Nanjo will loose spectacularly
- A horseback riding game that Kei would actually be good at since he does Fox Hunting as a hobby (sob)
-
A motorcycle duel okay nono subject
LMAO BUT EITHER SOUNDS FINE. admittedly I notoriously hate writing cooking, but I also know that riding horses competitively might not uhhh lend itself well to character conversation and interaction???
though shinji and horses is a huge weakness of mine..... Castor the horseman...
no subject
Okay but seriously we could find a way for them to talk while on horses, or have a conversation before the fighting. Maybe there's rounds of (implied if need) various events (shooting on horseback, taming the horse? etc etc) that ends with a knight's spare and a best out of 3...also...like I super love the idea of Kei losing to Shinjiro on horseback despite having ridden one since he's a kid.
Now I know this isn't something that's used in the later Persona games, but it used to be implied that personas sort of impart part their knowledge to their users like the P2 protag being good with fixing things because his persona is Vulcanus or another being popular because her Persona is Cupid, etc. Castor being known as one of the best master and riders in Greece and thus making Shinjiro good or a natural at horseback riding is like 👌👌👌👌👌👌 to me, or just him being good on it on his own because he deserves to be on a horse that isn't just one leg.
no subject
Insert that picture of the guy crying while gripping sand in his fist here.
Listen idc who wins or loses please let them ride horsies. We will figure it out ok and then hey maybe look at horseback riding in the future, idk. Him being kind of natural at it is cute, tho.....

During the AU memory event Shinji worked as a farrier so. He doesn't have zero??? Knowledge at least??? It's just weird fake memory implanted knowledge of how to shoe horses and shit, dwbi
no subject
But also he will quickly become Nanjo's friend if he's able to shoe horses and take care of their hooves.

Laughs hollowly from the pit of RL.
Hell yeah, Shinji is not gonna have an official position per se but he will mostly be serving as a host, LMAO, dressed normally, joining in on tables to keep people playing longer, possibly drawing in the cougars, smfh. And lbr probably sometimes making snacks for staff.
I feel like GRIZZLED DUDE FROM POST APOCALYPTIC and scruffy teen who cosplays like he's post apocalyptic would be great pals ok
no subject
Oh, also they don't know each other super well yet, but he has a pretty good opinion of Minato! So if he finds out they're buddies, that's another point in his book!
