INTRO / CR MEME MAY 2024
INTRO MEME
Welcome to Expiation and come on down! We're thrilled to have you here! This intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.
The SOTG for May is HERE, with changes and where the game is going for the month. Feel free to browse around if you haven't already, and check out the MAIN NAVIGATION for more detailed info about the game itself.
MAY EVENT
MAY EVENT SUMMARY
WOULD YOU CARE TO TEST YOUR METTLE?
The tablets don’t normally play ads, but on May 5, they do. Everyone receives the same image at the same time, as if a pop-up ad has been sent out to every device:
PUT YOUR SKILLS TO THE TEST. Join us for the CHALLENGE OF THE CENTURY! Sign up now!
There is no other information given. Tapping on the tablet’s screen outside of the ad will make it go away with no effect; players can choose to have it appear only once, or persistently. “Sign up now” is a button, and when tapped (either on purpose or by accident), the ad just…goes away. How odd.
THE TOWER
On May 20, anyone who signed up for this strange ad, whether intentional or not, wakes up on the ground floor of a tower with no way out and stairs leading upward. They’ll find doors as they climb, and behind each of these doors is a challenge. The goal of the tower will be simple, as explained to each character: there are four categories of challenges (outlined below). Each competitor must win one of each challenge type to conquer the tower, at which point they will be given a reward.
We leave the nature of these challenges up to you, but the following details will be the same for each challenge:
One, each challenge falls under one of four categories, outlined below. The size, nature, and scope of these challenges is left up to you, and can fall under any of these categories. You can do as many or as few as you would like.
Two, characters will find themselves facing off against another character, in direct competition for each of these challenges.
THE CHALLENGES
Wands. Challenges in the wands category focus on will and creativity. This includes creative solutions to problems, tests of resolve, examining accomplishments, and exploring what is important to your character.
Swords. The swords category centers reason, logic, wisdom, and intellect. This category also emphasizes adversity and problems, feeling trapped, and situations of oppression/cruelty.
Cups. Challenges in this category might pertain to spiritual matters, emotion, love, and examining your past or your feeling. Cups can encourage characters to face feelings head-on, or to focus on memories, whether accurate or not.
Coins. Emphasizing material matters and possessions, this is a category that focuses on physical, tangible challenges. These don’t have to be related to money; anything with high stakes (tests, games, etc) as well as challenges of physicality can fit into the category.
The categories are broad by design; we encourage you to think creatively about how you set up your challenges, and what category they may fit under best! Not all of these have to be physical fighting challenges, either. They can be any situation where one character is directly compared against another. Some examples: squats competitions, knitting the longest scarf, rap battles, test scores, the quiet game, challenges to not fight or not touch things, “the floor is lava,” races, really the sky and your imagination is the limit.
COMPETITION RULES
Winning. What determines a challenge win will vary based on the challenge given. If the win condition is to best your opponent in battle, you win by doing that! But if the challenge is “do not fight,” then winning a battle against a competitor could make you lose the challenge. We encourage you to be creative with challenges and win conditions.
Three strikes. Everyone has a loss now and then, but losing three times will kick a participant out of the competition. Not everyone can emerge a winner!
Knockouts and death. Strangely, death does not seem to be a permanent condition within the tower. Characters who die will wake up just as if they were knocked unconscious, unscathed and ready for the next round.
Forfeit. Characters can choose “fuck this, I’m out” as an option at any time! But you can’t reenter the tower once you leave.
Draws. If two characters tie, neither wins and neither loses. No one will collect a win for the category, but it doesn’t count as a loss either! They find themselves back on the tower steps, climbing to their next challenge.
Determining winners. We encourage you to determine who wins each challenge individually by whatever means makes most sense to you.
Leaving the tower. Characters who decide to leave, or characters who are eliminated from the competition, will wake in Aldrip to find that very little time has passed in their absence, no matter how long it seems like it’s been.
THE TOP OF THE TOWER
More information will revealed about winning the competition when the log goes up.
MEANWHILE, BACK IN ALDRIP…
The mAPP application on tablets has gotten an upgrade along with the rest of Expiation. However, it doesn’t always seem…accurate? Sometimes it seems to add buildings, roads, or even whole neighborhoods that aren’t actually there. Sometimes it puts a location pin on areas outside of town that you’ve definitely never been to…they don’t always seem to even exist.
It also seems to have added a percentage at the bottom, indicating how much of the map you’ve actually been to. Here’s a fun fact: even if you’ve been to every nook and cranny in Aldrip, even if you’ve walked every street and every district, the percentage tops out at 95%. It never goes any higher. Strange! But that’s fine. It’s probably just a weird little bug…right?

Robin | Jim Kirk
Contact:
Anything Else?: Hello! My name is Robin, I'm an Aquarius with a terminal addiction to self-sacrificing idiots xD Pronouns are she/her, timezone is PST! Fandoms are vast and infinite, but aside from Star Trek brainrot, I'm big on Marvel, Stranger Things, Teen Wolf, Doctor Who, Teen Titans, and RWBY as my main fandoms (though I have familiarity with a wide smattering!) I'm also a fanfic writer and a fanbinder~
Character: James "Jim" Tiberus Kirk
Canon: Star Trek AOS (Alternate Original Series - the 2009 movies)
Canon Point: Post-Into Darkness, set two years into the five-year mission (pre-Beyond)
Crime: James Tiberius Kirk: You are hereby charged with Criminal Negligence, with respect to your assumed Command Responsibility as Captain aboard the USS Enterprise.
Starfleet Code Violations:
- Starfleet General Order 17
- Starfleet General Order 29
Background: Jim's had a hard road, but ultimately, he's righted the wrongs of his universe insofar as he's able. Born in the middle of the destruction of the USS Kelvin, a tragedy which claimed his father's life, Jim's been fighting to survive all his life. His path, though drastically altered from his TOS counterpart, led him to the same place - the youngest Captain in Starfleet, commanding the USS Enterprise on her five-year mission to explore deep space.
Abilities: If Jim had DnD stats, he'd be near max on intelligence and charisma. He completed a six-year, intensive Command track program at Starfleet in three years, mastering the skills necessary for his captaincy. He's proficient in hacking and programming, and has been certified as a pilot and marksman, per Starfleet regulations. Outside of his above-average (for a human) intelligence, Jim doesn't have any extra abilities - unless you consider luck, as some would ascribe his solutions.
Plans: Jim's crime, while initially dismissed as baseless, points at one of his biggest fears - letting down his crew, or doing wrong by them. In actuality, the crime is geared towards his treatment of himself - his own recklessness, his willingness to throw himself in the line of fire. It's self-care, Jim.
So generally, building him up to realize that he's not as expendable as he thinks he is is one of my main goals. He'll also be very into learning more about Aldrip; why they're there, who brought them there, how the world functions. His first order of business will be to assist on Spock's "dark web" project (Jim's words).
How can you run into my character? Jim will spend a lot of time out and about, exploring nooks and crannies of Aldrip; he'll also likely be found at the library, enjoying the physical books available (a luxury, in his time). He can also easily be found at the local bar; and generally, most places Spock goes, he'll be around.
???: THE FIRST RULE OF RP IS TO HAVE FUN AND BE YOURSELF
Visualosities!

Hello Robin, I'm Jans, I play Peter Quill from the gotg 2021 game (it's a very good video game) and not gonna lie I've also been on the AOS train recently so I'm super psyched to see beautiful baby Kirk here and I think he and Peter would be great bros. They're from such wildly different versions of space, I'm so excited
Also let me know if you guys are okay with 4th walling because Peter would know Ye Olde Star Trek for sure 🙏 but totally understand if not hahano subject
Fourth walling is okay, with stipulations! It's not outside the realm of possibility for Jim to believe that there's a world out there where his life isn't real/is made-for-TV, but he also isn't privy to many details about TOS himself (and has a complicated relationship with knowing there's a way his life was Supposed To Go, and that he's the shittier universe lmao); so it would have to be balanced with what Spock chooses to share.

blonds have the most funAlso, that is totally chill with me! I'm happy to have Peter know only their names even (since he was more of a fantasy nerd than a space nerd back then) BUT I would defs want to check with Spock's player first so I'm off to do that o7

hi and welcome to the game!! I'm Kat, and I play Caitlyn Kiramman from Arcane and just added my second character, Gwen Stacy from Into the Spider-verse. I'm so excited to see the Star Trek cast grow!! AOS was one of my high school hyperfixations, so I'm super excited to see Kirk here!! I definitely want him and Cait to meet and bond over being smartasses, BUT ALSO!!! chris pine was the voice of Peter Parker that died before Miles became Spider-man, SOOOOO. Gwen might not have met him but he did have a banger of a Christmas album. c:
no subject
Thank you, nice to meet you! I love both of them omg; I play TASM!Peter in another game and have major Spiderman brainrot when I'm not deep in the Trek xD I FORGOT ABOUT THE XMAS ALBUM
But yes we definitely have to get them to meet!! Jim will be part of the event & out and about; or around the club center with the new STEM club.
no subject
yesss okay excellent! gwen has also been dragged into STEM club things so that's an easy way to make sure they meet!!
no subject
no subject
Oh absolutely; Jim will be hanging with the STEM club and getting inoculated with teenagers, so he won't have a problem. I'm still in the process of deciding myself, but I think Jim will be adopting a dog and I'll put an open starter on the Picnic log if Minato is around the park at all!
no subject
Ohh ok if you do put up the open starter I can pop in, Minato actually has a dog of his own! The little guy has his own monster summons please don't worry about that though Jim. He's a normal dog please believe him

I've got him here at the park with the new pet~

Re: Robin | Jim Kirk
although I may talk myself into it eventuallyI have been really enjoying our TDM thread and also Ethlyn's older brother is himself a self-sacrificing idiot so. I THINK THEY WOULD PROBABLY GET ON. (Especially because while she herself thinks she is the smart responsible one... she is ALSO a self-sacrificing idiot. just marginally less of one than her bro.)no subject
LOL love that! Like attracts like tbqh xD Maybe try to encourage each other to some self care now and again !
no subject
YES, she will definitely poke and prod him into taking better care of himself (or any care of himself) and she definitely can use all the help she can get in not being a total hypocrite there. She would definitely approve of the way Bones deals with him lmfao, sometimes you just gotta jab.
no subject
they can mutually bully (affectionate) each other into self-care!! god Bones does love to stab him. why? perhaps he's just got that Stabbable (tm) quality
