Character: Shinichi Izumi (+ 1 sentient alien hand) Canon: Parasyte: The Maxim (and just a note that this is a horror canon that involves sci-fi, psychological, and body horror! I have more notes on content warnings in Shinichi's info, as well as a link to an opt-out for any specific themes, interactions with Migi, etc.) Canon Point: episode "The Stranger", after his parents have left for a trip and Shinichi is home alone (aka juuuust before a major plot turn, to give me room to possibly canon update after that at some point ๐)
Crime: Murder.... which will also begin to dip into themes of Eating People, it's fine, he's fine,,
Background: Shinichi was an average good nerd living his best sweatervested life in Japan when one night he got infested by an alien parasite (as one does). Said parasite was meant to take over his brain, but failed and ended up maturing in his right ("migi") arm, instead.... and thus, Shinichi became an unwilling horror protag. His life has since been a lot of Turmoil and Terror, as he's been having to hide this horrible secret from everyone around him, survive attacks by other human-eating parasites who successfully took over their hosts' brains and want to kill him and Migi for being an anomaly, and protect his fellow humans as best as he can without losing his own humanity in the process (something that might already be happening as another parasite just told him he was "no longer pure"... and he may have also lost himself in moments of upset and threatened to eat people here or there, oop). Needless to say, Shinichi is extremely stressed and probably due for a psychological breakdown at any point!! As far as personality goes, he's very shy, nervous, and Has Anxiety, but his defining trait is definitely altruism to a ridiculous degree, meaning that he wouldn't hesitate to jump in and try to protect someone else, even if it comes at the cost of his own well-being (Migi judges this, humans are stupid, etc.)
Abilities: So "sentient alien hand" comes with a lot of whacky horror abilities, including transformations into things like blades and tentacles, inhuman strength and speed, sensing the wavelengths of things.... There's a lot more details about what Migi can do here in Shinichi's info! Shinichi himself can't Do Much, but he and Migi are in the process of learning how to work together and use Migi's abilities as a team, so that's definitely on the table as well.
Plans: Gosh there is so much... I'm very excited for the premise of this game, and how having a literal crime accusation will have an effect on characters! I definitely want to dive in hard to all the nifty psychological horrors that come with Shinichi / his canon. Themes I'm very much interested in for him are: identity & autonomy loss, what it means to be a "monster", changing humanity, moral ambiguity and all the grey areas.... Shinichi is also perpetually carrying around a lot of guilt, so that's always fun. Being told that he's accused of murder will absolutely shake him to the core and fuck him up pretty bad, and I'd love all the Chats about these accused crimes with other characters. In general, since he's new, I'd really just love to see how he does with others and have him get to know some folks. And ofc there's the Migi Factor: he's going to be Curious about literally everything and everyone here and very much wanting to observe.... Migi's in the process of trying to learn more about what he is, and understand humans (and other non-human entities). He's also the "logical head" whereas Shinichi is very much the "emotional heart", so seeing how both of them might differ in response to other characters would be really fun.
