Modly Notice / Mod Applications
Hello fair Chosen of Expiation.
This particular entry comes directly from London, your head mod (player of Aerith and Kisara).
There is really no easy or gentle way to share this, unfortunately. For a multitude of reasons, many of which are IRL and personal related, this is my official announcement that I will be letting Aerith and Kisara go. In addition to that, I will be stepping down from modship and leaving Expiation entirely.
I’ve thought a lot about how to handle that and though there’s an option for me to simply shut Expiation down, I would like to avoid that if possible as I’m aware there are many players who have been keen on this little journey that we’ve been going on together. If you’ve gotten this far with me in this entry, read on.
For Expiation to continue, whether it follows the very loose storyline that I had in mind or if it is to be repurposed (both options of which I’m fine with), it requires a change in moderator hands. As such, I am inviting people who are keen on that position, to use the template that I’ll be providing down below and submit a comment to this post.
If you’re not aware of what comes with this role, the below is roughly what you can expect. Bear in mind that if Expiation is repurposed, the below details might shift here and there.
I would suggest a team of 3 / 4 people. It’s possible to do it with 1 / 2, however, it would be a challenge to continue doing it that way without sacrificing quality.
Whether you’ve moderated several games or communities akin to, or if you’ve never moderated before, if you have an interest, I encourage you to submit an application. All people who submit applications for moderating and are chosen, I will work personally with. My plan is to help facilitate a smooth transition, so once a new moderator team is in place, I will stay around for another month to help behind the scenes.
Right now, the current moderator team still has a plan in place for the July event, the upcoming Sentencings that are going out, and likely the upcoming TDM at the end of July for the August reserve / application cycle, though any number of these things can be adjusted or delayed in favour to have time to work through what will inevitably be larger changes for the game as a whole. We will also still continue to answer info / faq questions, anything submitted to us via mod feedback, and so on. In about two, three weeks, we'll see where we are with moderator positions.
The ugly part of this is stating what is already known, and that is if we don’t have volunteers to insert into moderator positions, Expiation will not be able to continue and the current team will be put in the position where we must close it. In the event of this, there is no pomp and circumstance, no great fanfare or ending that has been planned. The current team would provide a cliff notes version of what players / characters could have anticipated going forward and the general storyline that was planned behind the game.
If you have questions or concerns, you’re welcome to contact the moderator team through your normal channels as well as comments to this post. You may also contact me personally if you wish to, though I suggest not asking questions in the discord server where they can easily be lost.
On a final note from me, I want to voice my appreciation to the entire game—players (past and current), my fellow members of the current moderator team, and all prospective eyes that have looked our way. Expiation is a dear project that I started developing over two years ago and waffled back and forth on, as I wasn’t certain how people would take to it. I didn’t think it would really gain much traction, if any, at all, and had it not been for the encouragement of some friends, it wouldn’t exist to be what it is today. It has been a truly rewarding experience, a pleasure to run the game, and hopefully foster an environment that inspires creative thinking and a more analytical approach to our characters that we enjoy playing so much. Thank you for giving that opportunity to me.
With that out of the way, please see below for the template you’ll use if you have an interest in taking a moderator position.

What does this mean for the game?

- Administrative (application processing / accepting, info / faq addressing, AC reward approvals, AC processing, taken list updates, and other related pages that balance the game from a ‘paperwork’ perspective)
- Prompt Writing (events, TDMs, mingles, Sentencings, and so on)
- World Building (State of the Game, world map adjustments / updates)
- HR / PR (this is the part where the moderator team addresses feedback, conflicts, and other direct interaction with players involving more OOC matters)
