Character: Ethlyn Canon: Fire Emblem: Genealogy of Kinkshaming Kaga the Holy War Canon Point: Chapter 5, when Ethlyn and Quan return to help your army but then they are ambushed, and they're at the bottom of a huge map and you're at the top so no matter how you try you can't get to them and have to watch them and their nights be cut down one-by-one by dragon riders!!!
Crime: "The crimes of the Grannvale Empire."
Background/Personality: FE4 is a game about the road to hell being paved with good intentions. Ethlyn, her husband Quan, and her brother Sigurd (the protagonist) spent 4 years deposing every tyrant they saw and then got all surprised pikachu face when the power vaccuums they left resulted in even worse people coming in to take over. This is why Ethlyn is charged with that crime: although she hated what Grannvale was doing and opposed it, if her family had been a little bit more thoughtful, things might not have been ended so disastrously for them. She has two children--an infant boy named Leif, and a girl named Altena who was with her and Quan when they fell. Ethlyn's current best hope is that Altena was taken as a hostage by their enemies. It sucks.
Also there's an evil dragon cult in spooky robes running around because of course there is.
Ethlyn is a healer and a noblewoman. When she was young, she had to step into the role of a duchess after her mother's death and had to drag her father and brother into not being total disheveled slobs in their grief, and that's shaped her present personality strongly. When she meets someone, her first instinct is to figure out their flaws and problems so that she can help them, like a self-appointed mom friend. It can be a little annoying, but her care for others is genuine and she will go far out of her way to help people who need it. She has a need to be busy, else she feels like she's doing something wrong... a responsibility somewhere she must be shirking. However, she can be somewhat shortsighted. Because she's more temperate than her brother (not difficult) she thinks she's the Sensible One. In truth she can be just as reckless.
To put things another way, she thinks her Disney song is "A Spoonful of Sugar" from Mary Poppins but it's actually "Surface Pressure" from Encanto.
Abilities: Healing: She has a magic staff with a glowy orb that can heal wounds, but not illnesses. Overall medical knowledge: Although she came from medieval times, Ethlyn has spent a lot of time studying the more up-to-date medical information in Aldrip. Swordswoman: Ethlyn's family is divinely blessed to be good at swords. Although her aptitude isn't as strong as her brother and father, she can use pretty much any sword she gets her hands on and uses it well, and she keeps in constant practice to ensure her skill stays sharp (har har.)
Plans: Ethlyn died in a desert. She recently visited a desert in which a lot of bad things happened. As a result, her ability to distract herself and pretend that she's fine is hovering below 10%. She is going to be extremely distracted, edgy, and overall unable to maintain her usual chipper, fussing-over-people aspect. She's also starting to think about how there are a lot of experiences beyond her own and problems aren't always easy to solve. Although she's still firmly convinced that there's no truth to her accusation, she's starting to broaden her thinking a bit--I'd love to have her continue that by talking to people who have different experiences than her.
She's also still running the Arztenritter, so if your character is in it or wants to be in it, hmu! she's always recruiting. always.
