WHAT'S NEW?
  • UPDATED CALENDAR IS HERE.

  • UPGRADES

The next few months will be upgrades in... most things! We will be upgrading info pages, etc to reflect where we're going as a game. We are even going to be upgrading the format of our sotg and event posts in an attempt to streamline it and also make it more user friendly for the mod team. This post in particular is a test on what we'd like to use for the sotg as well as the events! We want to hear from you! If you have questions, thoughts or suggestions about things that you think would help new players or just notes for the setting, let us know! We want to make sure you guys feel immersed in the game as we do all of these adjustments.

  • ACTIVITY CHECK

We’re making some clarifications to our Activity Check rules this month. First, as a reminder, from now on, new players must complete full activity for their first full month in game. That means players accepted in February’s app round must submit full AC for March. Second, we request that all proofs you submit for one month be with different characters. For example, for February, Jane may submit proofs with Stan, with Bob, and with Shelly, but Jane may not submit 2 proofs with Bob and one with Shelly. They must all be from different characters. Third, no AC that is posted after the deadline will be accepted. Additionally, no smut for base AC, please. Save it for bonuses.

We’d also like to remind everyone that, while we understand that life is A Time, there are no strikes for AC in this game. If you’re concerned about not being able to make activity in a certain month, we encourage you to proactively take a hiatus, just in case.

Emergency situations happen! If something unexpected comes up and you are unable to hiatus, please contact us and we’ll try to work with you. However, if this becomes a frequent occurrence with players that we feel are taking advantage of our generosity, we will have no choice but to be less lenient with all players.

At this time, we have no plans to change or reorder the way we do activity check, nor do we plan to add a strike system. Expiation is very player- and character-driven. This is why we have AC the way it is, and this is why we encourage participation the way we do.

  • THIS MONTH IN ALDRIP
  • BLACKOUT CONTINUES

The blackout in town continues, leaving characters cold and in the dark, without the modern conveniences they’ve been accustomed to. This will be status quo up to the event.

Moreover, strange things are afoot at the Circle K in Aldrip–namely, there are certain ways in which reality seems to be…malfunctioning, for lack of a better word. Anyone remember the garden where Chosen statues used to be? The entire garden is gone, replaced by a field that seems inexplicably blank. Spending time in this blank field will leave Chosen feeling disoriented and time-blind, as if they can’t remember how long they’ve been there, or even how big the field is.

The haunted house near the edge of town from the October Event turns into a pink house with plastic flamingos where the gravestones had been. Buildings may disappear and reappear in drastically different ways, or be completely invisible as if it was not exactly there.

Some locals seem to forget what they’re doing, stopping mid-sentence as if frozen, before seemingly “restarting,” maybe even on a different subject from what they had been talking about. Animals that disappear around corners may seem to vanish entirely. Occasionally, tired Chosen who are trying to enter one building may find themselves in another location entirely. These are examples, but of course there are any number of ways in which these strange inconsistencies may manifest, and you’re welcome to be creative with them.

  • WEATHER

The weather remains cold as fuck, for now. From the 11th onwards, when the event starts up, the snow will disappear completely and it will get super pleasant. Like. It's always not too hot, not too cold, and always sunny. Isn't that strange...

  • PLAYER PLOT

While of course there are people who are causing trouble, there’s someone in particular who decides to take matters into his own hands… er, hand. Ragna has decided that he’s going to blow up City Hall on the night of the 10th. There will be a post for that by the player, so stay tuned!

  • RNG SIGNUPS

There will be signups for an RNG mechanic that will happen during this event. Like in November, this will be a mystery RNG until the event post goes up. Good luck!

  • SO MUCH LOVE We know that last month was a struggle for some people, even parts of the modteam. We sincerely wish that March is better for everyone, and we're looking forward to our new players getting acclimated to everything!!

For my two cents, I love how laid back / choose-your-own-adventure the tone of the game is. Characters can influence events or sit out as the player wants and it makes the game feel really dynamic to me!

I love me a mix of drama and SOL and right now the balance is great imo

Hey mods, thank you for explaining why you feel the way you do about the AC standards for Expiation; I appreciate knowing your reasoning for that. I know you have thought about it and made a definite decision, so I don't expect you to say anything but "we've explained our thinking and made this decision" to this comment (if anything! because I know that's the only response).

Still, I would like to say that I disagree that it would harm the game if you loosened the AC standards a bit. I'm not saying we should have check-in AC, just one that gives us more leeway. The fact that Expi is a character-driven game is a reason to do that, because sometimes big shit happens to our characters that rocks them to the core. It's why I love this game. But it can take longer to figure out how to write that and I don't think that makes anyone less fit for the game than someone who can write it fast. Nobody makes me feel that way, either! It's only at AC time.

Life is life, as you've said, and honestly, it's not going to stop doing its thing to all of us, whether we can frontload our AC in a week or have to build it up over the whole month. So I would just like to say, thank you for considering the matter but I hope you keep an open mind about it going forward.

And thank you as ever for all your hard work running this game! I do truly love playing here and engaging in the events and IC choices you make for us, otherwise I wouldn't be saying this at all.
