INTRO / CR MEME MAY 2024
INTRO MEME
Welcome to Expiation and come on down! We're thrilled to have you here! This intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.
The SOTG for May is HERE, with changes and where the game is going for the month. Feel free to browse around if you haven't already, and check out the MAIN NAVIGATION for more detailed info about the game itself.
MAY EVENT
MAY EVENT SUMMARY
WOULD YOU CARE TO TEST YOUR METTLE?
The tablets don’t normally play ads, but on May 5, they do. Everyone receives the same image at the same time, as if a pop-up ad has been sent out to every device:
PUT YOUR SKILLS TO THE TEST. Join us for the CHALLENGE OF THE CENTURY! Sign up now!
There is no other information given. Tapping on the tablet’s screen outside of the ad will make it go away with no effect; players can choose to have it appear only once, or persistently. “Sign up now” is a button, and when tapped (either on purpose or by accident), the ad just…goes away. How odd.
THE TOWER
On May 20, anyone who signed up for this strange ad, whether intentional or not, wakes up on the ground floor of a tower with no way out and stairs leading upward. They’ll find doors as they climb, and behind each of these doors is a challenge. The goal of the tower will be simple, as explained to each character: there are four categories of challenges (outlined below). Each competitor must win one of each challenge type to conquer the tower, at which point they will be given a reward.
We leave the nature of these challenges up to you, but the following details will be the same for each challenge:
One, each challenge falls under one of four categories, outlined below. The size, nature, and scope of these challenges is left up to you, and can fall under any of these categories. You can do as many or as few as you would like.
Two, characters will find themselves facing off against another character, in direct competition for each of these challenges.
THE CHALLENGES
Wands. Challenges in the wands category focus on will and creativity. This includes creative solutions to problems, tests of resolve, examining accomplishments, and exploring what is important to your character.
Swords. The swords category centers reason, logic, wisdom, and intellect. This category also emphasizes adversity and problems, feeling trapped, and situations of oppression/cruelty.
Cups. Challenges in this category might pertain to spiritual matters, emotion, love, and examining your past or your feeling. Cups can encourage characters to face feelings head-on, or to focus on memories, whether accurate or not.
Coins. Emphasizing material matters and possessions, this is a category that focuses on physical, tangible challenges. These don’t have to be related to money; anything with high stakes (tests, games, etc) as well as challenges of physicality can fit into the category.
The categories are broad by design; we encourage you to think creatively about how you set up your challenges, and what category they may fit under best! Not all of these have to be physical fighting challenges, either. They can be any situation where one character is directly compared against another. Some examples: squats competitions, knitting the longest scarf, rap battles, test scores, the quiet game, challenges to not fight or not touch things, “the floor is lava,” races, really the sky and your imagination is the limit.
COMPETITION RULES
Winning. What determines a challenge win will vary based on the challenge given. If the win condition is to best your opponent in battle, you win by doing that! But if the challenge is “do not fight,” then winning a battle against a competitor could make you lose the challenge. We encourage you to be creative with challenges and win conditions.
Three strikes. Everyone has a loss now and then, but losing three times will kick a participant out of the competition. Not everyone can emerge a winner!
Knockouts and death. Strangely, death does not seem to be a permanent condition within the tower. Characters who die will wake up just as if they were knocked unconscious, unscathed and ready for the next round.
Forfeit. Characters can choose “fuck this, I’m out” as an option at any time! But you can’t reenter the tower once you leave.
Draws. If two characters tie, neither wins and neither loses. No one will collect a win for the category, but it doesn’t count as a loss either! They find themselves back on the tower steps, climbing to their next challenge.
Determining winners. We encourage you to determine who wins each challenge individually by whatever means makes most sense to you.
Leaving the tower. Characters who decide to leave, or characters who are eliminated from the competition, will wake in Aldrip to find that very little time has passed in their absence, no matter how long it seems like it’s been.
THE TOP OF THE TOWER
More information will revealed about winning the competition when the log goes up.
MEANWHILE, BACK IN ALDRIP…
The mAPP application on tablets has gotten an upgrade along with the rest of Expiation. However, it doesn’t always seem…accurate? Sometimes it seems to add buildings, roads, or even whole neighborhoods that aren’t actually there. Sometimes it puts a location pin on areas outside of town that you’ve definitely never been to…they don’t always seem to even exist.
It also seems to have added a percentage at the bottom, indicating how much of the map you’ve actually been to. Here’s a fun fact: even if you’ve been to every nook and cranny in Aldrip, even if you’ve walked every street and every district, the percentage tops out at 95%. It never goes any higher. Strange! But that’s fine. It’s probably just a weird little bug…right?
PLOT WITH ME
Player:Contact:
Anything Else?: Anything you might want us to know? What kinds of things interest you? What's your current favourite fandom? Put it here.
Character:
Canon:
Canon Point:
Crime: The crime your character was accused of when they arrived.
Background: A brief insight into your character's history is fine here. You can talk about their personality as well.
Abilities: Any abilities that you feel is important to note about your character. Bullet points and concise descriptions are okay.
Plans: What kinds of things do you want to do in the game? Any kind of CR you want to specifically pursue? Any special character discovery or exploration you want to do? This is the place to put all of that.
How can you run into my character? What's their daily life like? Do they have a job? Do they have other habits or routines?
???: Questions? Comments? Memes? Put them here.
Toph Beifong | Avatar: the Last Airbender
Contact:
Anything Else?: AMA coffee, books, fluff dog ownership, and deep state government
Character: Toph Beifong
Canon: Avatar: the Last Airbender
Canon Point: Post-canon with some comics (she is 13)
Crime: Swindling. Which she has actually been doing a lot of here.
Background: Toph is a sassy child with a chaotic good alignment who ran away from her cushy rich person life in medieval fantasy not-China. Along the way she made a bunch of friends and got sucked into helping save the world. She's pretty famous at home now, but mostly that sucks because now people think she's part of The Establishment and are too intimidated to have cool fights with her. Toph loves breaking rules, having fun, teasing people, and is secretly a very good person who is absolutely loyal to her friends. She is also 100% confident in her ability to crush opponents.
Abilities: Earthbending!! Includes sand- and metalbending. Toph makes buildings and chucks rocks around and senses the whole world around her through the ground, which is important because she's blind. Her bending style is based on Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis kung fu, which is a rare and interesting style in real life, and a unique one she made up in canon. So she's also a great martial artist, a great showman, and actually a great teacher.
Plans: Toph had a rough couple months and could use some space to breathe this month and get back to her usual self! She will definitely sign up for the tower challenges but in the interest of not overwhelming myself, unless we have a TRULY GREAT idea, I would be more up for handwaving an encounter. (Reply here to figure that out? Totally up for Toph losing, winning, ties, whatever!)
She is also buying out a rundown casino with Mitsuru and has declared herself head of security. She is probably going to set up a literally underground fighting tournament with Vi. Let me know if anyone wants in on those things.
How can you run into my character? The greatest sin for Toph Beifong is boredom so she is constantly running around. Previously she did a lot of building repair but there's not really a need for that now. You can still find her doing various side quests when she isn't swindling people at the casino she's about to buy or pestering others in general. She is the emergency medical transport for Ethlyn's medical clinic so you can meet her that way, too.
She has a very unique house in the middle of the city that she made from one unbroken piece of stone, and Kakashi lives next to her with his dog rescue, which she also built for him. She's such a busybody it's pretty easy for me to have her run across someone doing anything. If there's something going down, she wants to be a part of it.
???: Y'all where do we get more AtLA fanart done in traditional art styles? HELLO????

Hell yeah time to go see if anything looks funny from Suze's brainstorming list...
no subject
lmfao what if it's just like painting
and they both suck at it because one is blind and the other can only see in red
no subject
HAHA that is SO funny, it could even be that thing where each of them works on it for 5 min and then swaps back and forth

omg yes, the painting is just a mess of colors and everything. scott and toph give up halfway through and just throw paint at each other--
