INTRO / CR MEME
Welcome to Expiation, home of the big bucks and no whammies! We're thrilled to have you here, new and old players alike. Please note that this intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.
As a reminder, Expiation runs on bi-monthly events. Please note that all characters accepted in June are exempt from the June AC. For everyone else, please submit your AC by June 30th, 2023. We will provide a warning list halfway through the day (eastern time) on both the OOC community and the moderator plurk. If you need to take a hiatus or have extenuating circumstances, reach out to the moderator team via DM, our feedback page, or plurk. We're some pretty understanding people! Real life sometimes slaps all of us around, after all.
As a kind reminder for people who are using backdated threads as proofs, we are counting the number of comments from June. Please make sure your counts are correct. We will sweep anyone who fails to meet AC due to miscounted comments.
For our new players, we encourage you to read the Premise and End Game section of our April 2023 State of the Game, as it includes behind-the-scenes information for players. There's also a wide array of other information on that entry available for the curious. (You can also check out the tag and read the bottom section for interesting lore / world building questions that have been forwarded to the team since the game's opening.)
To give you a general idea of how the upcoming timeline will be...
- Sometime this week, we'll have sign ups for the Sentencing mechanic. The short description is that we will be taking sign ups from interested parties. The sign up post will contain (hopefully) all of the information you might need as players to make an informed decision about whether you want to be involved or not. From the interested parties, a select number will be chosen via RNG, and those characters will be assigned a task that they will have a specific amount of time to complete. Successful completion will result in characters obtaining some kind of information pertinent to overarching game story line in some way (consider it may be a little more vague rather than directly in one's face). Characters who participate in this may also have their parchment crimes altered following successful or unsuccessful completion, depending on personal actions taken in the game thus far.
- Our next event isn't scheduled until later July 2023, but we can tell you that it's got something to do with those friendly little fairies who were giving people the power to grow plants at will. It might be worth fostering some good relations with them whilst the opportunity is there.
- We'll have a simple mingle available in late June / early July for newcomers and Chosen who've been around for a while as a means of getting to know people. Something likely light of heart to help offset some of the more serious themes we tend to explore in our events.
- The next state of the game will also take place in July, after the event, which will, as ever, include results of the event, changes made to the world, things we'd like to do in the future, things we're working on in the background, and more little curiosities for everyone.
- The next application cycle will be in early August 2023. The next TDM is scheduled for the end of July to pave the way for that app cycle.

Anything Else?: Hi! I'm Jelle and very much new here, but also glad to be here! c: My fandom interests swing wildly, so it's so hard to even summarize them here.. It's probably some weird venn diagram of magical girls, murder and old men who haven't moved past living in the 80s. (To be fair, neither has Ange.)

girlfriendbestie. :(Background: Do you know those teens who comment "this is cringe, delete this" on everything? The ones so hurt by everything going on in the world that they instead turn incredibly nihilistic and feel the need to cover up any and all emotions with a completely detached persona?
Hi, this is Ange, and she is A Teenager alright. Though she's a very sweet girl deep down, years upon years of an absolute trauma train have made her develop a habit of covering up absolutely every single trace of emotion with deadpan sarcastic remarks as a protective mechanism. This tends to go a little bit far, to the point where she can jump off a second floor all the way to the ground without doing as much as blinking. This is just what happens when your entire family is murdered when you're six years old and things somehow only get worse from there. Especially when said murder is a big mystery and everyone loves speculating about it. Ange would hate true crime podcasts if they had been a big thing in the 90s, is what I'm saying.
Abilities: Umineko abilities are truly very.. [vaguely waves hands]...
Ange's main thing is that she can summon ice pick-looking stakes out of nowhere! They're technically her demon harem, but since they won't be able to take on any other form in-game, they'll just be stakes. Still pretty deadly though.
Plans: I'm super excited to explore the themes of the game with Ange! Her canon revolves a whole lot around themes of crime and guilt, and right now Ange's beliefs on that are very stubborn and black and white, and I'm curious to see if this place can change her mind even just a little bit..
Also, I'd love for her to make some friends? Ange needs friends. She's only ever had imaginary friends for twelve entire years, please save this girl from being friendless. I promise she's really sweet once you've unlocked it past the facade.
She's also castmates with Lion and Will, neither of which.. Ange actually knows, because Umineko is a fun and very uncomplicated canon. Lion is actually her cousin.. from the past.. and an alternate dimension.. but they're her cousin all the same, which is going to be a fun thing to deal with.
