Welcome to Expiation's CR meme! This is a post where players can plot with each other on the direction they'd like to go for the month, and so on and so forth. There's a form below for you to fill out below, so get plotting!

We're now inclding an EMP element since it's an app month! We have an APP THIS PLEASE and ENABLE ME PLEASE in the comments below with a form, so if you're interested in participating, use the form and comment under the subject title applicable. Other than that, the regular comments will go as a normal CR meme would! Also, the TDM will be posted in the log comm with old and new characters alike able to top-level on it.

AUGUST SUMMARY

DATABREACH UPDATE.

It's gotten worse. The glitches and issues that began in July are still in effect, and unfortunately, they seem to be ramping up. Glitches in August become more severe and also more persistent, happening with more frequency and longer duration. Some people may find the effects last longer or leave a lingering effect. Some may notice that the environment around them has lost quite a bit of its stability. The setting of Expiation as well as the local NPCs of Expiation can be affected, and those effects are nearly limitless, so long as they don't permanently damage the setting. Some ideas to get you thinking:

-Extreme weather. Temperatures and atmospheric conditions will begin to fluctuate wildly: one city block could be experiencing a severe heat wave, while the next block seems to be having a blizzard. Hurricane-force winds, torrential downpours, and hail may suddenly start up and then vanish, leaving only damage in their wake.

-Natural disasters may begin to affect small pockets of Aldrip and the surrounding areas. Earthquakes, severe storms, tidal waves, floods, and any other conditions you can think of are fair game, whether they exist in the real world or in fiction.

-NPCs may glitch in extreme ways. This could include a catastrophic failure (a "blue screen," if you will), or something much more personal, such as taking on characteristics or memories from loved (or loathed) ones back home.

-Entire buildings and blocks may change without warning. The residential district may become a desolate wasteland, or maybe the park across the street is suddenly a gigantic skyscraper. Maybe your home is now in outer space. How's the gravity in there?

-Thus far, the Chosen and locals have enjoyed the ability to communicate without issue. However, whatever allows them all to understand each other seems to be breaking down as well. Characters may find themselves unable to understand or communicate with each other, even speaking in languages they don't canonically know.

Remember: these are just ideas. The glitches experienced at this point can be anything you can think of, and we encourage you to get creative with these effects for your characters and for the setting!

IN SPITE OF GLITCHES...

Life continues on. As we've gone to around 60 players, we will be opening apps to both new and current players. New arrivals appear in the same timeframe as usual, but it may not be smooth sailing as they try to navigate a city rapidly descending into chaos.

Bon Odori begins on August 13, and with it comes a celebration of lights and remembrance. New and current Chosen are encouraged to both attend, and dress up for the occasion, whether they're used to wearing a yukata or not. There will be food, drink, activities...and certainly nothing could possibly go wrong.

My fandoms are Suikoden, Final Fantasy, Baldur's Gate, Devil May Cry, DC Comics, Marvel 616, Monkey Island, Metal Gear, Legend of Zelda, Tales of, and other gaming/nerd franchises too numerous to list.

Crime: Despair

Background: Over twelve thousand years ago there was a very sad man who felt like the only depressed person ever. He made a really bad Tweet and it nearly destroyed the world but half the world sacrificed themselves to summon a god and save what was left. Then they decided to do another sacrifice and a new faction said "no" and a lady cut the world into fourteen pieces. Five thousand years later a shard of the depressed man's soul was reborn as an insane elf scientist who was also depressed. The insane elf tried to save his people by resurrecting their first emperor via cloning, which destroyed the empire when the resurrected emperor decided to make a pact with the Void to end the world.

Emet-Selch, he was from the old world (remember that?) and his soul was intact, found the sad elf, recognized his soul, and made him an Ascian. Five thousand years after this happened the sad elf is now vibing in the corpse of a dead samurai.

And that's Fandaniel. I hope this clears up any confusion.

He is sadistic, whimsical, nihilistic, flamboyant, and dangerously curious. He also really wants to die and stay dead and ideally take everyone else with him. His interest in destroying the world doesn't really extend to Expiation though, since he's not sure the world is real enough for him to destroy.... Which is also bound to cause some problems eventually.

Abilities:

• Conjure shadow chains and bind people with them


• Possess dead bodies (but he has to return to his current vessel after a time)


• Chuck spells around like a wizard


• View the memories of others by observing the person while they are remembering something


• Fly


• Create objects with his own aether which he usually uses to create clothes and disguises


• Teleport

Also, he has no shadow. Weird, right? Probably nothing to worry about.

It's worth noting he rarely uses his more combat-focused abilities. He doesn't like fighting unless he's very sure he can win.

His greatest "ability" is his intelligence. He's an obnoxious turbo-genius.

Plans: Honestly, I don't have any hard plans for August. I'm a new player so I don't have a baseline to compare the glitches to. Fandaniel himself will not be glitching, though, since I played with that in July.

So I'm going to do something different here!

CR I CAN OFFER!

• MAD SCIENCE BRO! Do you play a scientist or someone who is too curious to let morals get in their way? Fandaniel wants to team up to study the glitches.


• Villain CR! Want a villain to torment your hero? I've got the man for you. He is very cruel and manipulative.


• Weird friendship. Fandaniel may be a mad sadist but he is also very old, patient, and nonjudgmental (it is impossible for him to unilaterally hate all living things more than he already does). He could be an uneasy ally for certain character types.


• Echo bullshit. With the Echo, Fandaniel can experience your character's memories as if he lived them himself. He can only experience the memory they are actively remembering. Using the Echo he can also understand all languages because he's resonating with the other person's soul to communicate. Normally not worth mentioning but if people run into language related glitches he can help them out.


• TECHNOLOGY! Fandaniel can do not-so-mad science to work with people on technological upgrades to devices, weapons, etc as long as he has the resources. The levels of tech he worked on when he was a mortal (elf) were insane.


• Fandaniel enjoys finding sponsors for his projects. He will act servile toward these people and do things for them in exchange for funding and resources. He thinks of these people as his patrons.

Fandaniel is also a very complex person. He will usually present himself as a flamboyant, whimsical eccentric. Past that one can get the sense of his cold cruelty. Past that is his despair which can honestly be depressing to be around. And there is more. But expect that "getting to know" him will take multiple interactions.

How can you run into my character? Ascian NEET here. But he is a busybody despite hating everyone so expect him to curiously poke his nose into everyone's business.


IMPORTANT NOTE Fandaniel is usually a playful, whimsical eccentric and as much comedy relief as villain but this character can get very intense. Themes around him include suicide, despair, existential horror and hopelessness, nihilism and extreme self-loathing. You can read more about this on his OPT OUT. Please do not hesitate to opt out of interactions if you want to. I understand some of this character's themes are more heavy than people might want to deal with in RP.

Crime: Swindling

Background: Toph is a sassy child with a chaotic good alignment who ran away from her cushy rich person life in medieval fantasy not-China. Along the way she made a bunch of friends and got sucked into helping save the world. She's pretty famous at home now, but mostly that sucks because now people think she's part of The Establishment and are too intimidated to have cool fights with her. Toph loves breaking rules, having fun, teasing people, and is secretly a very good person who is absolutely loyal to her friends. She is also 100% confident in her ability to crush opponents.

Abilities: Earthbending!! Includes sand- and metalbending. Toph makes buildings and chucks rocks around and senses the whole world around her through the ground, which is important because she's blind. Her bending style is based on Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis kung fu, which is a rare and interesting style in real life, and a unique one she made up in canon. So she's also a great martial artist, a great showman, and actually a great teacher.

Plans: My main plans are to get back in the game after a slow couple months! Nothing in particular planned yet apart from some Gnosia event fallout.

How can you run into my character? Toph helps run the casino! Her top level is over here, or feel free to plot something with me!

She has a very unique house in the middle of the city that she made from one unbroken piece of stone, and Kakashi lives next to her with his dog rescue, which she also built for him. She's such a busybody it's pretty easy for me to have her run across someone doing anything. If there's something going down, she wants to be a part of it. She is the emergency medical transport for Ethlyn's medical clinic so you can meet her that way, too.

Crime: He's been charged with matricide, specifically the murder of Mystique, who he knows as his mother. He's not the one who actually carried out the deed.

Background: Kurt's a teenage mutant who resembles a furry blue devil. He's part of the X-Men back home, where mutants are ostracized about society. He has a special watch called an image inducer that he uses to hide his true furry from and look like a normal human teenager. While he's open about being a mutant, he still hides his true form from most people due to worries about how others perceive him, but he's slowly getting to the point of dropping that facade.

Abilities: He can teleport, which is accompanied by puffs of smoke that smell like brimstone. He can also cling to walls/ceilings and is particularly acrobatic, along with having a prehensile tail.

Plans: Most of my plans for this month are following up on things from last month. He'll feel guilt from his time as a Gnosia, but also what memories he has from the glitch effects will leave him thinking about a few things, such as getting more in touch with his religious side and practicing fencing. He's also getting closer to going public about being blue, but I'm not sure if that will be happening this month.

How can you run into my character? He hangs around a few places around town, such as the Club Building and especially the arcade. He hits up fast food joints pretty often, and the perfect job for him just hit me recently: he will be a pizza delivery boy, with record delivery times.

Crime: Rolling in the sacred sands of Vulcan without taking your Captain out to dinner first. iykyk.

Background: Spock serves as the XO and Chief Science Officer on Starfleet's flagship the USS Enterprise. He was taken from the middle of his first five year mission into deep, uncharted space. He serves under his Captain, James T. Kirk and he's having a grand time (see: it's wildin' out there). Anyway: Spock is a child of two worlds and two species. He is primarily defined by curiosity and is always getting himself into trouble because of it. He follows the teachings of his father's culture, which focuses on both logic and reason. Control over the self is a big thing for Vulcans.

Anyway: don't let his appearance fool you. He can put on the impassive affect all he wants, but Vulcans feel more and more deeply than Humans. He's also very kind beneath his prickly exterior. He's a little cactus of a man.

Abilities: Here's the short list!

Plans:

>> Chiefly, there's some [ redacted stuff ] going on in the background for STEM-related bullshit. Stay tuned. There will be opportunities presented soon. We stay silly. :)

>> I will be trying to take it easier this month in light of this, but I will be offering the following this month also: the possibility of learning advanced meditative techniques and/or mental shielding, music-related clubs, etc. He is also working on a chess app and enhanced screen readers. He's currently compiling a slang dictionary/translator for this portion, because Toph requested it.

>> Spock will probably be out investigating phenomena and glitches, so catch him literally outside recording things furiously. He may or may not be AWOL for a few days for other [ redacted reasons ]. You can hit him up if you can with the glitches, but you'll probably find him through usual routes. Maybe.

>> Because Spock is a touch telepath and the translation issues will not impact him: if you would like to have your character desperately attempt to convey something, please feel free to hit me up. Spock can be used as a universal translator, though it comes with some pretty explicit caveats (see: permissions and power information above). This is a pretty nice way to get some interesting CR with him, but he won't just use it without cause (unless, well, you know him already - shit's intimate, fam).

>> Spock spends a lot of time at the docks toward the beginning/end of the day. It's a preferred meditation spot!

>> He can be found feeding and studying the stray cat population if you're lucky enough to spot him. He will make up all kinds of logical bullshit excuses as to why he does this. He is a liar. He just really likes cats.

>> He spends a lot of time in the STEM clubhouse working on various projects. He can often be found repairing all kinds of fiddly devices and coding. If you ever need him to fix something or need something done, you know where to find him.

>> He might be found having a casual cultural jam session with NPCs this month. More to come.

>> He plays a fucking mean game of chess. Come to the park if you want your ass beat. He loves chess. He might not be super inclined to keep playing you unless you want to learn, but hey.

Crime: Impersonation

Background: A nonbinary (they/them) mutant and member of the X-Men, Morph is a superhero who's done things like have an evil stint after coming back from the dead, fought giant robots AND terrifying cyborgs, scrapped with villains who are often also mutants, all sorts of fun stuff. They're the sarcastic jokester of the group and the resident cameo machine, with a good dose of trauma in their background to boot.

Abilities: Shapeshifting into people and animals with the added benefit of copying physical abilities. Also, they're made of goo. I have a permissions post for long-term impersonations here.

Plans:
So, Morph went gnosia during the event last month and uhhhh has been having a bad time after snapping out of it. They have a lot of brainwashing-related trauma due to their past superhero experiences, so this one's hitting pretty hard for them, particularly after they either scrapped with or tried to kill a few of their new friends. They're going to mostly be processing that this month and trying to find ways to apologize to their CR.

Otherwise Morph will be at various mingles going on this month and I'm definitely open to them meeting new people or doing other fun things! My main plan for the glitches is that Morph's powers will be cutting in and out, so they might get stuck in different forms for a while, or even have new forms forced upon them. I'm happy to play around with the more severe glitches as well, so if anyone needs a rescue from one Morph is an option.

EDIT: Morph's signed up for the fighting tournament at the casino, I know I did a lot of fight logs last month but WHATEVER. Actually writing out any fights is entirely optional ofc.

How can you run into my character?
Morph has started roaming around in the form of a big, fluffy persian cat, particularly when they're trying to avoid their CR for whatever reason. (Is the extra cat hanging around Jinx's cat cafe way too intelligent? Like it knows what you're saying? Don't worry about it). Otherwise Morph can be encountered pretty much all over in their regular form as well.

Background: Tendi is an effusive, bubbly nerd who rambles about science and wants to be literally everyone's friend. She's very nice! Please let her be your friend! She wants to impress everyone! ...she's also formerly one of the best and most well-known assassins in the Orion Syndicate, but uh, we're not gonna talk about that.

Abilities: Tendi has big brain thinking and also secretly badass assassin training, meaning she's very smart and can kick very much butt. As for powers, none, she's pretty normal

Plans: There's some STEM stuff coming up, and I'd like to get her involved in Ethlyn's clinic since she worked in sick bay for a while, but otherwise my main plan is, as always, building CR. She misses her friends and wants to meet new people!

As a note, I had a ton of plans with the gnosia event that I didn't have the bandwidth to follow through on. if anyone wants to handwave that these plans happened, I'm good with that, please let me know! Otherwise I'll just assume she was ineffectually worshipping any number of gnosia from afar.

How can you run into my character? Tendi is pretty inquisitive, and there's a lot of stuff she's just never seen before, so I can put her pretty much anywhere. That said, her usual haunts:

-STEM club! Come hang with the nerds!
-Trek house! They say "never meet your heroes," but what about living with them!!
-Work? I should get her a job. Again I'm gonna try putting her in the clinic, but I'm gonna explore some other stuff in addition! Girl's gotta eat, after all. (meaning she's gonna have to buy a lot of food. she has no idea how to cook)

I'll also be putting her on either the casino mingle or on the tdm when it goes up because I want to have something open for other people.

Abilities: Brain demons, swords, needling personal life details out of people who don't really want to talk

Plans: OKAY SO. I'm going easy on Yu for the time being, meaning I'd love to get him involved in other peoples' drama but won't be giving him anymore for the time being. That said, my eternal quest is for more cr, so let's be friends! He'll also be able to translate from japanese to english and back, in case that comes in handy at any point.

-Yu's Shadow log! Since glitches are still in effect, this will be happening in August as well as July.

-He'll be attending the obon festival! I'm not sure whether he'll have a top-level or not, but if anyone wants him there, I'm happy to do a starter.

-Jobs! He can't sit still, so he has approximately 500 part-time jobs. This ranges from working at Lupin and other restaurants to delivering supplies to running merchant carts and anything in between.

Rogue was beautiful and smart with a great sense of humor, a heart of gold, an independent nature, and a lot of spirit. She usually had an attitude of good-natured irreverence. Rogue occasionally referred to everyone including even her enemies as “hon” and “sugar” and spoke in a sassy Southern accent. Fundamentally, he's just some guy who very unwillingly was pushed into discovering his literal psychic powers and getting traumatized/quantum killed a bunch. He's too empathetic and wants to save everyone but also is embarrassed by this fact about himself... ugh... also he's never seen Titanic.

Abilities: He can't quantum leap anymore but he WILL talk about it, possibly in a way that even makes sense!!

Plans: Do You Want To Come To Movie Night? <- Mostly this rn. There will??? be a little mingle log at some point, probably end of next week, dated for whenever.

He's also compelled to find the seams (tm) and punch a mastermind in the face because he's never gotten to do that and he's owed a punch, here in his third weird kidnapping event-- if anybody wants to conspiracy theorize with him, he's into that. T-pose and half-press A with him irl.

Background: He's Peter Quill! But nicer. Technically also a veteran of the Galactic War. This Peter is kind of a dad who likes saving people and misses space. He survived getting nearly brainwashed by an evil alien entity, so this glitch stuff is gonna be pretty concerning for him! Boy, if only the rest of the Guardians were here. Nothing they can't stop with some teamwork.

Abilities: Peter has sick Spartoi blasters that shoot energy, lightning, ice, wind, and lava. They only work for him because he's a space prince. Otherwise he's got his cool tech! He does actually also have a translator implant so he might be OK this month, though I could always have it glitch out.

Plans: Peter needs friends!! He needs to go on some shenanigans and get more friends. He's been through his arc of learning not to fear the past, so he just has to move into the future now. Happy to have him help others discover the value in accepting your own grief, etc. Also always down for people who don't take him seriously but then see him in action and go "wow, OK, he's not useless." Also my dream is for him to make some antagonistic friends because he misses the Guardians so much and they constantly give him shit for being a goody two shoes.

How can you run into my character? Peter mostly just solves problems and wanders around. He frequents Silco's bar and likes to get drinks there, and is an unofficial STEM club member (they keep his gear in shape!)

He's weird, he sleeps in a coffin for some reason, he has sad bitch disease, he's way older than he looks, he's got it all

- Doesn't age, which doesn't help the vampire allegations
- Turns into something else but the FF7R series ain't got to that point yet so we don't talk about it!

Plans: Two things: one is that Vincent is still teaching them kids his favorite card game, Queen's Blood. Threading this sounds annoying so I don't wanna do it, but if we want to just indicate in the background during a scene or something that's fine, I just don't want to do the nitty gritty stuff uno reverse idk. He's also willing to train some people in basic self-defense and how to handle a gun, unless you're Fandaniel in which case he's gonna Homer Simpson out of there.

Background:

Criminally insane, Jinx has a love for wanton chaos, destruction, and anarchy, and gets easily bored if these reckless urges are left unsatisfied for too long. Jinx isn't shown to think much about the consequences of her behavior and generally acts before thinking, which can lead to people getting hurt easily when around Jinx. While she is clearly a gifted inventor, Jinx is also extremely scatterbrained, forgetting scientific terms and instead imitating gun noises while she constructs her weapons.

Jinx is often portrayed to be hyperactive and very childish, complaining when she doesn't get what she wants and calling others by immature names, giving Vi nicknames such as "Fat-Hands" and "Stupid". With her carefree, self-centered attitude, Jinx doesn't care about money, order, or what others think about her and just destroys what she wants when she wants. Despite this, she still likes to get recognition for her many crimes and is capable of showing off to the Piltover police, knowing that no matter what goes down, she will always get away.

Despite her immature and silly demeanor, Jinx is still a significant force of evil and malice, even if in her crazed mind she sees it as a game. She would put on a veneer of a bubbly and energetic person, only to hide the hurt and trauma of past events. She's also very sarcastic, extroverted with a twisted sense of humor.

Abilities:

INHUMAN SPEED — she has the ability to zip by faster than a normal human.

INHUMAN LEAPING ➤ (HEADCANON) — she has the ability to jump higher than a normal human/ good at parkouring.

HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE ➤ (HEADCANON) — can handle strong amounts of pain (unless you shoot or stab her a repeatedly).

HIGH SUBSTANCE TOLERANCE ➤ (HEADCANON) — whether with alcohol or drugs, it takes a lot for her to get a buzz or high.

HIGH METABOLISM ➤ (HEADCANON) — due to shimmer also being used as fuel, her appetite grew twice as much and needs to eat a large amount to feel normal.

Mental Illnesses:

DISSOCIATION — is a mental process where a person disconnects from their thoughts, feelings, memories or sense of identity. Dissociative disorders include dissociative amnesia, depersonalisation disorder and dissociative identity disorder. People who experience a traumatic event will often have some degree of dissociation during the event itself or in the following hours, days or weeks. For example, the event seems ‘unreal’ or the person feels detached from what’s going on around them as if watching the events on television. In most cases, the dissociation resolves without the need for treatment.

i will probably make a log of her just trying to go on about her day, but the environment is against her and just have her tripping over stuff, running into poles, smashing her face into a brick building, or have a ball hurling at her from when the orphans were playing kickball before they blue screened. stuff like that. come laugh at her. she deserves misery.

Crime: Severe child endangerment

Background: Nasty science man adopts so many orphans to put into his orphan machine that makes them into science projects. Turns out he genuinely loves them but still does his daddy wrongs anyway because somethingsomething good for mankind. Cannot resist following his own curiosity. Weirdly never seems to get upset or offended about anything.

Abilities: Most of his abilities are due to artifacts he's either crafted or modified, which includes the following:
- Shoots a laser out of his helmet
- A disintegration ray from his elbow
- he's got a tail
- can spider-man around with some weird black goo
- Despite all of these artifacts, he's also just generally a very capable fighter and is extremely agile
- Technically his soul is in a rock, which is in the form of a weird whistle he wears
- don't worry about it

Plans: Now that Bondrewd has found out death isn't permanent, he is VERY interested in seeing if there are any real consequences to how often a person can die. So if you want your character to die a lot because of this asshole, let's chat and see if we can make it work.
