terminal scavenger hunt

Hi, expi! As I'm sure many of you know by now, there has been an IC discussion going on re: forming several groups to go seeking out the terminals. Root (computation) suggested to Miller that he take charge of organizing these groups while she would work on organizing the technical side. They are specifically interested in doing the reset after making a backup of the current system. So, just making this post to let the plotting commence!

Obviously this is a player organized sitch, so please feel free to ignore and it and completely do your own thing if that works better for you!

But for those who are interested, here's the basic rundown right now:

- Groups will be assigned by general scouting location (Aldrip and surrounding area, Ketsora, Lorentia Cave, Desert, Pessiria Forest/Rumpitur area, Ruins).

- STEM club will be providing a telemeter to each team which will provide a signal helping lead them to the terminal.

- Communication will take place via the STEM club's established darknet to keep details as secure as possible; characters who can’t already access it will be provided access. Spock, Kirk, and Pike will be acting as support and coordination for everyone.

- ICly, Miller will be looking for at least one tech-savvy person for each group and at least one battle-ready person (but preferably more); he would favor characters going to certain regions based on their own background in game or in their own canon (e.g. he's from an apocalyptic underground society, so he knows how to navigate underground), but we can pretty much flub anything based on your preference.

- If your character wants to be in a group with another particular character or characters, just let me know you'd like them to be paired together!

- If you have a preference for a location you either want your character to go to or don't want your character to go to, also let me know! If no preference is given, I will RNG your character into a team. The idea was originally for 6 teams, but if we get too many people, we'll just have more teams!

- Want to be involved and your character hasn't talked to either Root or Miller? Totally cool to handwave that interaction with Miller! No need to ask my permission. But feel free to add me on shomonkai or hit me up in the game discord @ seraphita2033 if you need to hash anything out.

For the sake of not slowing down the event, sign ups will close on 9/20 at 12 pm PST (GMT -8) at which point I will respond to you with your team assignments! But there is, of course, no time limit on what you devide to do with it. Happy searching, Chosen!

Feel free to use the comments below to plot out things amongst yourselves, not limited to but including trying to throw a wrench in these plans completely.

Hello Team Red / Team Serious Business.

Root has definitely made herself her own telemeter and comms device and hooked the comms into her cochlear implant, so someone else on the team can also have them! She is going to be carrying a pack with a lot of equipment in it to perform Her Plan (see below) and although she's a good shot, she's not really equipped to face supernatural threats, so she will probably need some protection. Not at all against her getting injured.

Especially if Visas experiences the corruption effects (●'◡'●) She herself is going to speak to the childlike data fragment and I got that thread going already, but it's pretty highly unlikely she'll deviate from her plan. She would be very pro other teams also attempting to perform backups so there's some redundancies.

I think I have you all on Plurk so if you'd like me to set a PP let me know?? Also I am very in favor of sketching out some rough timeline events and having multiple (smaller) threads going simultaneously rather than one big group log, I tend to find that gets hard to manage...

Her Plan:

1. Install virus into terminal allowing admin access
2. Perform system backup (details TBD with Quentin? Telepathy????)
3. Isolate her and her team's memory (plus Quentin) plus their backup from the reset process to try to make sure they stay intact
4. Snoop around the code throughout all this to check out if the AI is actually sus or anything else she can uncover about its core motives
5. Perform reset
6. If it all looks good, add some code to help the A.I. be more autonomous in the future and able to communicate with them freely 👀
7. Use the restore and defer to the A.I. on which parts to restore

I feel you on the threading matter, that's more ideal than a big log.

In any case, Vincent is just going to literally do whatever it is Root recommends, and he will endeavor to make sure she is safe. I WISH I HAD MORE TO ADD but he's out of his depth here beyond being a bodyguard.

If he has to sit on Visas so be it

Weekends are kind of hit or miss for me, so I'm not sure how present I'll be for further plotting over the next few days but I'm good with either here or on plurk! thesinnerwithin if anyone doesn't have me added and would like to.

I am, in all seriousness, happy with Kurama being on communicator duty, I was actually going to offer it originally tbh. For the most part his fighting style is hands off (unless the whip is involved), so he's also capable of multitasking if required. Considering his way of operating, he'd probably stand by and let the others handle Visas/any other threat if they seemed equipped to and only step in when it became necessary (or blatantly life threatening.)

Hopefully that aligns with what everyone else was thinking in chat, but if I've mixed anything up, feel free to correct me!

I am stoked for this!

I'm going to repeat what we've talked about in Discord, which is that Visas' manifestation of rot/corruption is going to reset her ability to tolerate the fact that all non-Chosen lifeforms here (down to snails and trees and stuff) are a simulation, and during this she's going to adopt an older way of thinking that she had abandoned, which is basically, "life is meaningless so end it all."

Since she has a lightsaber and Force powers, she will see few logistical problems with this and will just start trashing everything and will express a desire to just destroy the system, which will instigate a bit of a fracas with the rest of the team.

She won't end up killing anyone, but Kurama's probably going to get a tree chucked at his head and some Force Choking and/or Lightning-ing for everyone while the rest of the crew takes her down.

Okay so here's a maybe outline of some threads:

1. Setting off / meet and greet / mission briefing
2. En route environmental enemies and chatting?
3. Visas starts to feel the corruption, maybe reacts by attacking Root somehow as she's working at the terminal, Sephiroth steps in and they fight and starts to get affected himself
4. Separate thread with Vincent reacting to Sephiroth getting affected and shutting that shit down
5. Separate thread with Kurama taking over facing Visas and disabling/restraining her

Root is going to be busy most of the time but I'll hopefully be able to have her hop on comms a bit and there's like a million fallout aftermath threads I want once we know what happens 👀

I can set up a thread for the team with some placeholders for these top levels if folks would prefer?
