INTRO / CR MEME
INTRO / CR MEME
Welcome to Expiation, home of the big bucks and no whammies! We're thrilled to have you here, new and old players alike. Please note that this intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.
As a reminder, Expiation runs on bi-monthly events. Please note that all characters accepted in June are exempt from the June AC. For everyone else, please submit your AC by June 30th, 2023. We will provide a warning list halfway through the day (eastern time) on both the OOC community and the moderator plurk. If you need to take a hiatus or have extenuating circumstances, reach out to the moderator team via DM, our feedback page, or plurk. We're some pretty understanding people! Real life sometimes slaps all of us around, after all.
As a kind reminder for people who are using backdated threads as proofs, we are counting the number of comments from June. Please make sure your counts are correct. We will sweep anyone who fails to meet AC due to miscounted comments.
For our new players, we encourage you to read the Premise and End Game section of our April 2023 State of the Game, as it includes behind-the-scenes information for players. There's also a wide array of other information on that entry available for the curious. (You can also check out the tag and read the bottom section for interesting lore / world building questions that have been forwarded to the team since the game's opening.)
To give you a general idea of how the upcoming timeline will be...
- Sometime this week, we'll have sign ups for the Sentencing mechanic. The short description is that we will be taking sign ups from interested parties. The sign up post will contain (hopefully) all of the information you might need as players to make an informed decision about whether you want to be involved or not. From the interested parties, a select number will be chosen via RNG, and those characters will be assigned a task that they will have a specific amount of time to complete. Successful completion will result in characters obtaining some kind of information pertinent to overarching game story line in some way (consider it may be a little more vague rather than directly in one's face). Characters who participate in this may also have their parchment crimes altered following successful or unsuccessful completion, depending on personal actions taken in the game thus far.
- Our next event isn't scheduled until later July 2023, but we can tell you that it's got something to do with those friendly little fairies who were giving people the power to grow plants at will. It might be worth fostering some good relations with them whilst the opportunity is there.
- We'll have a simple mingle available in late June / early July for newcomers and Chosen who've been around for a while as a means of getting to know people. Something likely light of heart to help offset some of the more serious themes we tend to explore in our events.
- The next state of the game will also take place in July, after the event, which will, as ever, include results of the event, changes made to the world, things we'd like to do in the future, things we're working on in the background, and more little curiosities for everyone.
- The next application cycle will be in early August 2023. The next TDM is scheduled for the end of July to pave the way for that app cycle.

Anything Else?: I am a graduate student and a botanist! I recently "adopted" a cat (by which I mean there was an abandoned cat living outside and I brought her into my apartment) named Regina who likes to help me type.
Character: Ethlyn
Canon:
A Song of Ice andFire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (or FE4)Canon Point: Chapter 5, when she and her husband try to rejoin your army but they get ambushed and you have to WATCH as they're cut down in the desert because you can't reach them in time even though you're on the same map!!!
Crime: "The crimes of the Grannvale Empire."
Background: Genealogy is a game that says "you know how the first 3 fremblem games have you interact with a continent by conquering all of it in pitched battle? wouldn't that make people kind of mad?" Sigurd, the protagonist, always has the best of intentions in going into a place and booting out the tyrants, and that goes on for 3 years while behind his back, the other great houses in his country of Grannvale use his work to build an empire and then declare him a traitor once he's not useful anymore. Also there's a cult trying to resurrect a dark dragon god and they do some really messed up things to achieve that.
Ethlyn is Sigurd's younger sister, and although she's married to the crown prince of Leonster, that prince is Sigurd's bestest friend Quan so they join his army for a while until they get dragged back home by their responsibilities there. Although Ethlyn sees herself as more sensible and level-headed than her brother and frequently scolds him for haring off without thinking, she and Quan also fail to see how the rising political tensions put them in peril, particularly from their own enemies at home. When Sigurd makes a desperate attempt to return to Grannvale and clear his name, Ethlyn and Quan ride out to rejoin his army. Instead, they're ambushed in the desert by the dracoknights of Thracia, Leonster's historical enemy, and cut down. Ethlyn also brought her young daughter with her to see Quan off--which means she has no idea what happened to her. (What did happen was that the king of Thracia raised her as his own because she was divinely blessed to be good at spears, but Ethlyn has no way of knowing that. Her current best hope is that Altena will be raised as a hostage.)
Abilities:
- Healing: Ethlyn has one healing staff at the moment that heals injuries in a basic, keep-you-from-bleeding-out way so that soldiers can get back on their feet and keep fighting. She also has non-magical medical knowledge and knowhow, and although she's from a setting that's based heavily on pre-1500s Europe, she's been augmenting that with more modern medical knowledge since arriving here in January.
- Sword's: Ethlyn's family is divinely blessed to be masters at swordsmanship (or swordswomanship, in her case). She's less divinely blessed than her father and brother, but she can pick up almost any sword of reasonable size and be competent with it.
Plans: Since the beginning, Ethlyn has been telling everyone that her parchment is wrong because she opposed what her homeland was doing! But since FE4 is a game about the road to hell being paved with good intentions, I want to have her come to grips with how she and her family do have some culpability for their failure to see the warning signs and react appropriately to them. So far she's not there yet, but I would love her to have more conversations with people who also hold positions of power or who didn't hold positions of power and got hit with the fallout of decisions made by people higher-up who didn't know what they were doing. Also more chances for her to show that she can be just as stupid and reckless as her brother--she's done that a few times already but she will definitely keep doing it.
Another thing that would be interesting that she's gotten into a bit with some characters is spirituality/religion! She's part of two houses that were divinely blessed by gods (actually dragon gods that took human form) to take down the last evil empire and while the way that characters in FE4 express that is entirely headcanon... it's fun headcanon.
She's also a healer and started the Arztenritter, which is essentially a group of EMTs on horseback. You may notice that she tends to steer conversations to 'do you want to join the arztenritter' if given half a chance, and if your character expresses any interest in healing and/or horses, she will suggest it. She can also be legitimately annoying in being solicitous and mom-friendish and I think it would be fun to have her actually irritate other people with her behavior.

Honestly, I've always wanted to make these guys relevant somehow in a roleplay that didn't simply involve them spooking someone or snacking on stuff.
