INTRO MEME

Welcome to Expiation and come on down! We're thrilled to have you here! This intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.

The SOTG for March is HERE, with changes and where the game is going for the month. Feel free to browse around if you haven't already, and check out the MAIN NAVIGATION for more detailed info about the game itself.

MARCH EVENT

MARCH EVENT SUMMARY

IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY

Characters wake up on the morning of March 11 to note a few things with relative immediacy. First, the weather is beautiful: warm, breezy, sunny. Second, all of the locals in Aldrip and the surrounds seem to have vanished. Third, these things seem totally normal to the Chosen–who now all believe that they are native to Aldrip.

That’s right. You’ve lived here your whole life. Everything you’ve ever known is this world.

Characters will go about their daily business in lives that they believe have always been like this. You’re free to choose any jobs, roles, backgrounds, and connections with other Chosen for your characters, so long as they believe that they have always lived in Expiation. All character powers are gone, or dormant, for most of the event. More on that later.

LOST AND FOUND

Occasionally, while going about their daily activities, characters will come across an item that seems strangely incongruous with the world they know. This will begin happening after the first few days of the event. A symbol particularly relevant to your character’s canon, for example, or a book. Watches, jewelry, cards, photos, small trinkets and tableaus–all of these are fair game.

Everything in your character will tell them not to look at these objects. Their entire being will try to resist them. If they do, the item disappears when they leave its immediate area. What item? They forget about the entire encounter. Strange.

Touching or interacting with these objects or moments will force a strange memory into their head–a memory of a past life, or a dream, maybe. These are your characters’ real memories, and as the event goes on, they will be able to either collect or ignore more of them. You’re free to engage with as many or as few of these as you like. We’ll ask on the event poll how many you interact with, and how many you ignore. The final count may have lasting repercussions on your characters and/or the world of Expiation, so please pay attention to the poll! Not all of these instances need to be threaded out.

There will be an RNG ELEMENT in this event, as well. Please note that characters who are picked for RNG have a small but nonzero chance that RNG effects could have a long-lasting impact on them.

Anything Else?: Hello, I'm Octa! I live in PST with a bratty poodle, currently in the psych field but god do I want to transition out and open up my own boba shop. Big into videogames (especially Bioware style RPGs and sigh Genshin), various novels (Discworld my one true love), and actual play (Dimension 20 my other one true love). My guilty pleasure is horrible otome isekai only god can judge me now. I ramble a lot about Taiwan.

Character: Gideon Nav

Canon Point: Post ch31 (aka bathtime with Harrow)

Crime: Dereliction of duty

Background: Lesbian necromancers...IN SPACE! Gideon is a himbo (herbo?) teen (though she will claim that 18 counts as an adult) from Pluto who loves fighting, loves swords, loves puns, hates books without pictures, and as I keep typing this I am struck with the horror that she might just be a less jackass version of lesbian Gaston. Her backstory is basically Naruto but with even more abuse, which has made her desperate for any scrap of kindness or validation. If you're genuinely nice to her for more than five minutes, she will be ready to die for you. Don't count on her for Talk no Jutsu though, Gideon's the type to punch first and leave the questions to the nerds.

Abilities: She's very good at swords and muscles and sarcastic quips off the top of her head and nothing else.

Plans: I'm brand new here, so I'm looking to establish any sort of CR be it positive or negative! Gideon's been pretty socially isolated her entire life, so I would love to get her some friends or at the very least frenemies who hate her for all the right reasons. I'm down for absolutely anything, but off the top of my head ways to connect with her could be: fellow fighters/swordspeople she can train with, fellow idiots she can get into chaotic stupid shenanigans with, nerds or kids she can bodyguard while they get the real work done, people who can teach her what normal social interactions are like, vitriolic buds she can have snark-offs with, people who can throw her off her guard because she's very easily manipulated and flustered by flirting or teasing.

For the event, I'm still hashing out AU details but Gideon will most likely be a former street rat currently working as a sheep shearer on Shinji's farm! Other delinquents and street gang members might recognize her as the weirdo constantly graffitiing giant tits and shitty puns on every wall and statue around.

How can you run into my character? Gideon's a jock to the core and she likes to feel useful, so she can be found usually a) fighting monsters, b) lifting heavy objects when asked, c) various odd jobs that require muscle, and d) doing pullups or situps on any suitable surface in sight.

Character: Emet-Selch
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon Point: 5.0 Shadowbringers - the nebulous time around the Warrior of Light's departure from Eulmore to their fleeing to Il Mheg

Crime: "Failed in his duty to his people."

Background/Personality: Emet-Selch is the main antagonist of the Shadowbringers expansion. Known to most as an 'Ascian', he is considered a paragon amongst others of his kind, along with two others. His current guise, however, is that of the first emperor of the Garlean Empire - Solus zos Galvus. First impressions paint him as a grumpy, dour man who acts a lot older than he looks. But get to know him better and maybe you'll see that he cares more than he lets on.

Abilities: He is functionally a god to most "normal, human" characters. He can create things out of seemingly nothing and is an incredibly strong mage. At least, he was before the nerf by Expiation. Also, weirdly enough, wields a greatsword and gunblade with skill (probably a lot of other weapons too but why learn something new?).

His current body has a 'third eye', the Garlean eye, which lets the user have slightly greater spatial awareness. I.e. You can't really sneak up on him. Roll disadvantage for stealth.

Plans:
For this upcoming event, I am thinking of turning Emet into an actual doctor/physician/some kind of healer at the clinic he works at. I'm waiting to see how mods respond to the age question but likely he'll believe himself to be exactly the age he actually looks like (mid-30s). So when his real memories come in it'll jar heavily with the native persona (mass murder and genocide, yay!) he has turned into.

He's going to be extremely traumatised. :')

How can you run into my character?
Both before and during the event he'll be working at the clinic run by Ethlyn. Or at least some kind of doctor's clinic, not sure if character businesses remain. If you need healing, he'll grudgingly see you.

(There's a low-level healing circle that will be set up in the waiting area for those with minor wounds or mild sickness.)

Otherwise, he can occasionally be found out in the forest with Grani, his familiar, or in town buying groceries for himself and his friend, Hythlodaeus.

Character: William G Maryblood
Canon: The Faraway Paladin
Canon Point: Before entering the Rust Mountains

Crime: "Being a monster in human guise"

Background/Personality: William was adopted and raised by a family of undead heroes after they rescued him from a group of demons intending to use him as a sacrifice. He grew up isolated from the world, but they taught him everything they knew so that he would be able to survive once he reached the age of maturity and left home. His middle and surname is a tribute to them: Au(G)ustus, Mary, and Blood. William's martial prowess and piety eventually earnt him the honour of being annointed a paladin. It is his life's goal to restore the name of his patron goddess, Gracefeel, and to fight against her sworn enemy, the god of undeath, Stagnate.

Abilities: He possesses the very typical abilities you would associate with a paladin. Wards against toxins, dark magic, the ability to steel his allies against fear etc., and also the power to lay the dead to rest. His physical strength is monstrous. He's not necessarily a spectacular mage but he's very good at adapting lesser spells to situations, which is more important than brute strength (as Gus taught him).

Plans:
Before the event: William currently has care of a church and will be offering shelter to everyone via the network.

During event: I haven't decided yet but I think perhaps something completely different to his current occupation to really shake him up. Some kind of criminal or morally grey profession? If that ends up not being feasible then I could possibly make him more like the person he was before his reincarnation: an extremely depressed shut-in who is known for being a good-for-nothing.

How can you run into my character?
His is a fairly ordinary life. As a paladin he's quite involved not just with his church upkeep but also in responding to requests to hunt overly aggressive monsters etc. He does not take requests to track down human criminals as it is not his role to pass judgement on other people. It's possible to spot him firmly turning such requests down from people who have made the wrong assumption about his job.

Character: Nikolai Gogol
Canon: Bungo Stray Dogs
Canon Point: Manga chapter 98

Crime: Humanity. Which is hard to parse bullshit just like him.

Background: Arguably the most sadistic and theatrical member of the organization that was known as Decay of the Angel. This month Gogol has been in crime town for a year now, though, (WOW! Happy anniversary expi💞) so he's somewhat more removed from all that now.

The personality spark notes are: man who puts on the airs as a insane killer clown to contradict humanity's innate ability to feel sympathy, kindness, and guilt all to take a crack at proving there's a true form of freedom. His personality tends to be whimsical (even while committing violence) but sometimes you'll get a more reasonable flavor of Gogol. He's just, you know, "the mortifying ordeal of being known" cranked up way too high.

Abilities: I don't think it'll be relevant for this upcoming event but he's got The Overcoat. It has a wide range in terms of what it can do. It's extremely good for crimes. ~~and not-crimes but he uses it mostly for crime~~

Plans:
I'll be honest I'm at a bit of a loss so I'm content to be reactive this event. That being said I think if your character wants a good solid glimpse of how extremely normal, mature, or even (GASP) good-natured? Gogol COULD be if he wasn't snubbing all of that... This event is going to be the best chance. In canon he's shown a glimpse of what it means to have a sturdy understanding of being moral and just so it might be fun to play with that here.

I'd love to establish new CR under those conditions!! For previous CR it might be fun to establish a long term connection.

Does anyone want a secretary? I think that would be a funny throw back to that one time Gogol went uncover as some governmental figure's easily bully-able secretary for months.

Anything familial would be messy in the long term because that's a strong emotional attachment but I do love mess.

Despite this discussion about being a normal citizen there might also be something criminal with cursed organs in there somewhere... Listen they'll all begin to remember the truth eventually. I wouldn't worry too much about it though ofc.

How can you run into my character? Feeding pigeons bird seed in the town square I bet. He might poke his head into Lupin sometimes too.

Crime: murder & illegal trading

Background/Personality:

Criminally insane, Jinx has a love for wanton chaos, destruction, and anarchy, and gets easily bored if these reckless urges are left unsatisfied for too long. Jinx isn't shown to think much about the consequences of her behavior and generally acts before thinking, which can lead to people getting hurt easily when around Jinx. While she is clearly a gifted inventor, Jinx is also extremely scatterbrained, forgetting scientific terms and instead imitating gun noises while she constructs her weapons.

Jinx is often portrayed to be hyperactive and very childish, complaining when she doesn't get what she wants and calling others by immature names, giving Vi nicknames such as "Fat-Hands" and "Stupid". With her carefree, self-centered attitude, Jinx doesn't care about money, order, or what others think about her and just destroys what she wants when she wants. Despite this, she still likes to get recognition for her many crimes and is capable of showing off to the Piltover police, knowing that no matter what goes down, she will always get away.

Despite her immature and silly demeanor, Jinx is still a significant force of evil and malice, even if in her crazed mind she sees it as a game. She would put on a veneer of a bubbly and energetic person, only to hide the hurt and trauma of past events. She's also very sarcastic, extroverted with a twisted sense of humor.

Abilities:

INHUMAN SPEED ➤ she has the ability to zip by faster than a normal human.
NHUMAN LEAPING — (HEADCANON) ➤ she has the ability to jump higher than a normal human/ good at parkouring.
HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE — (HEADCANON) ➤ can handle strong amounts of pain (unless you shoot or stab her a repeatedly).
HIGH SUBSTANCE TOLERANCE — (HEADCANON) ➤ whether with alcohol or drugs, it takes a lot for her to get a buzz or high.
HIGH METABOLISM — (HEADCANON) ➤ due to shimmer also being used as fuel, her appetite grew twice as much and needs to eat a large amount to feel normal.

Mental Illnesses:

🌕 SCHIZOPHRENIA — a serious mental illness that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. People with schizophrenia may seem like they have lost touch with reality, which causes significant distress for the individual, their family members, and friends.
🌕 PTSD — Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. It is natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation. Fear triggers many split-second changes in the body to help defend against danger or to avoid it.
🌕 SEPARATION ANXIETY — Anxiety Separation anxiety disorder (SAD) is a type of mental health problem. A child with SAD worries a lot about being apart from family members or other close people. The child has a fear of being lost from their family or of something bad occurring to a family member if he or she is not with the person.
🌕 HALLUCINATION — a sensory perception (such as a visual image or a sound) that occurs in the absence of an actual external stimulus and usually arises from neurological disturbance.
DISSOCIATION — is a mental process where a person disconnects from their thoughts, feelings, memories or sense of identity.

jinx is not going to help anybody during the black-out. sorry not sorry. she is fed up with aldrip, the council, and probably with you too, lol. but in seriousness, jinx had it pretty rough last month (her own fault) and now that her punishment have been lifted, she will hardly be in aldrip at first. during the day, she will spend her time either at her TREEHOUSE in PESSIRIA FOREST or at the FLOWER SHOP to help silco (conflictresolution) with whatever that needs to be done. during the nightfall, she will be in aldrip and staying indoors with silco for protection.

SNAX VENDING MACHINE
the vending machine will be LOW IN STOCK WITH ITEMS THIS MONTH. due to the black-out crisis (and jinx being fed up), the vending machine filled less than usual. inside, there will be chips, cookies, bottles of water, and medical supplies. these items are scarce, so get them while you can!! no honey fruit this time, sorry.

MARCH 11TH/EVENT
for the AU, jinx will be her League of Legends counterpart: café cutie jinx.

for more picture reference of her appearance and a rough draft of her AU backstory, feel free to read HERE. her café will be called "THE PUUURRECT CUP" because puns are fun.

there isn't too much of a change between this jinx and the original in regard to personality and her chaotic behavior. the only key differences are: she will be a lot friendlier and nicer, and instead of her passion love for guns, explosions, and destruction, it's baking, making pastries, and coffee. jinx is still very chaotic but in the kitchen. she is also one of those bakers who will make very weird and wtf pastries decor because yes. but despite how insane they look, her food is extremely delicious.

this version will still have her mental illness, but because everyone in this AU knows everyone and been living here since forever, it's no longer a secret. unlike the original, not everyone is aware jinx can hear voices or sees things, etc.

But hey ya'll! I'm Pepper. On paper, I work in video/film production. I got my BA in Film Studies so I'm putting that sucker to good use with freelance videography and helping my pals produce their indie film projects.

I have a hard time keeping up with fandoms, but I'd say my two primary fandoms are Doctor Who and the Persona series. The thing I love about panfandom rp is that it gives me an excuse to watch/play other folks' fandoms. That's my peanut butter and jam.

Character: Dr. Gregory "Please Don't Give the Child A Scalpel" House

Crime: Involuntary Manslaughter (◡‿◡✿)

Background: Here's a bullet point summary ( content warning: mention of serious leg injury & drug addiction )

• Head of Diagnostic Medicine with a specialty in infectious diseases
• Diagnosed with a leg infarction. Doctors told him to get his leg amputated. He said 'nah, i'm good.' One thing led to another, and now one of his thighs barely has any muscle in it. Since then, he has used a cane to get around.
• Now deals with chronic pain because of his leg infarction, which he uses Vicodin to dull the pain. But that, in turn, means he's grown very addicted to it.
• All around rude and nasty. -10/100

Abilities: Oh, he's hella human. But as mentioned above, House is a talented medical doctor with a keen eye for the human body. So he can probably spot if someone's got constipation or tapeworm. On his off-hours, he's a multi-instrumentalist who can play both guitar and piano.

Plans: I am down for anything ✨ CR wise - Given who House is, I'm open to any kind of CR development, both positive and negative. Those negative CR routes would be interesting to explore. Especially if we hit on those moral grey-area debates (the existence of god, death, when it's a good time to lie, etc.) Just let me know what you've got in mind and we can hash out the details as we go.

Also, I'm not sure what positive CR with House looks like (yet). But I'm open to exploring any venues you have in mind!

How can you run into my character? Honestly??? Not sure. LMAO. I'm gonna wing this one to the best of my ability. When it comes to building that foundational CR, I'm going to keep myself open to any available options. This is one of those things where I think I need to get a little creative with it.

Maybe I'll have him piano it up at some establishment or like - if you got a dude who needs medical treatment, we can totes go that route too! Sky's the limit baybbeee

Anything Else?: i'm in PST and a night owl besides so i'm around in weird hours. i tend to go between boomerangs and going days between tags so i appreciate y'all's patience in advance ♥ big fandoms include tiger & bunny, persona 3, rwby, umineko, psycho-pass, dr. stone, trigun ... most canons that are around in dwrp i at least know some of via osmosis.

Crime: Familial neglect

Background: Kotetsu here is a professional superhero who fights crime on live TV alongside his partner, Barna~~bun~~by Brooks Jr. He's also a professional old man and walking dad joke, pretty much. :')

Abilities: Hundred Power, which increases every physical factor hundredfold, from strength and speed to hearing/sight etc. He can do this for one minute an hour as of his canonpoint. Also has a fireproof mechanical power-suit for protection, which he can activate via a bracelet on his wrist.

Plans: He's mostly just running around trying to be helpful during the blackout up until March 11, at which point he will become a high school gym teacher. I'm open to any and all AU cr, from family to students to coworkers! In this 'verse he'll still be a widower, but not actually a father unless someone's interested in being his AU child.

How can you run into my character? You can run into Kotetsu pretty much anywhere. He hasn't gotten a formal job yet, so he's been staying at the inn and mostly just doing various errands for locals and also trying to get the lay of the land properly now that the whole corruption crisis has passed.

Anything Else?: Reload has taken over my life, I have no other interests rn. Also just an fyi that I'm just getting over repeated really bad bouts of sickness so I will be a little slow on the rp front but definitely want to plot things!

Character: Mitsuru Kirijo
Canon: Persona 3
Canon Point: Late November (around the 20th 2009 to be more exact), after the group returns from the Kyoto trip.

Crime: Corruption

Background: Stupidly rich and beautiful heiress who is ridiculously intelligent... also not so secretly a complete dork. Mainly preoccupied with fighting beings called Shadows in her world and trying to erase her family's monumental fuck-ups and has been like that since she was a child.

Abilities: Mitsuru has the ability to summon a handy little thing called a “Persona”. They are fundamentally like alter egos that possess incredible abilities. In Mitsuru’s Persona’s case, it is called called Artemisia. Its specialties are ice, healing, and foul status inflicting magic. It also possesses scanning and analysis ability, although this isn’t quite as strong. Personas are summoned with a tool called an evoker, which basically resembles a gun. (cw for self-harm, suicidal imagery) It is used to summon the Persona by pointing the device at your head as if shooting yourself.

Plans: I've been all kinds of AWOL off and on for the last few weeks due to the aforementioned sickness and family things, so at the moment I mainly want to focus on new CR for Mitsuru and building on the relationships she already has.

Regarding the event goings on specifically:

- She'll be showing a weirdly high tolerance to the cold during the blackout however she will at some point need to get somewhere to warm up. Anyone brave enough to get her close for warmth gets bonus Courage points.

- AU STUFF. I haven't worked out too much of the specifics here yet other than she is probably going to be doing something completely not Mitsuru-like whatsoever so that I can cackle at her eg. the world's most elegant farmhand. Good god who let her wear overalls?

I would LOVE to establish some ridiculous alternate relationships in this. So far she's got Shinjiro as an amicable ex and I would love for more... friends, colleagues, family, lovers, ex-lovers, whatever floats your boat!

How can you run into my character? ORDINARILY she makes most of her income here from monster hunting so if you happen to want to take on the same monster bounty as her then that's a good way of meeting her. Otherwise anywhere that sells fancy tea or books usually draws her in.

I'm also a professional programmer and simulations developer, so occasionally there will be plurks involving me feuding with the temperature output of a stovetop or yelling about wet mops leaving puddles incorrectly or similar hot nonsense, I promise it's more normal than it sounds. (We've got a laundry folding module coming down the pipe at work and I'm already angry at the existence of cloth physics)

Crime: Criminal negligence and public endangerment

Background: Izuku is a friendly, awkward, genuinely heroic sweetheart of a teenager who is not always the best at social interaction but he tries his best, and is an incurable meddler who won't turn down an opportunity to try to help others...who also happens to be a superhero-in-training, and has been through Some Shit. As a head's up, that includes not only trauma resulting from hero activities but also over a decade of severe bullying that included a lot of physical violence, a lot of emotional abuse and social ostracization, and an instance of what can only be described as attempted inciting suicide. All of this has very noticeably affected his behavior, his mental health, and who he is as a person. I'll be doing my best to reach out and post CWs whenever exploring specific instances of trauma or bullying is likely to come up, and both understand and encourage telling me to avoid going into it with you/your characters if you feel more comfortable that way - you can reach out via PM to opt out.

Abilities: Izuku has a superpower ("Quirk") called One For All, which 1) can be transferred from person to person and 2) collects whatever other superpower the last user had and brings it along when it gets passed to someone else and has basically become a superpower swiss army knife. His app lists all of them, though the most important one is the 'base' ability of stockpiling power - it's essentially a form of super-strength/physical enhancement that Izuku can channel to all or some of his body and 'dial in' the power output and resulting enhancement on a scale of 1% to 100%. Some of his superpowers can also seriously physically wreck him if he isn't careful.

Plans:
Blackout: As anyone who knows him can probably guess, Izuku's going to be keeping himself busy checking up on people and trying to help wherever he can; and since he's not particularly used to the whole "no electricity for extended periods" thing, ESPECIALLY not when it's this cold (he's from Shizuoka prefecture! he's not even used to winters having snow!) for once it's going to be surprisingly easy to make him stop and take care of himself. Getting too cold is hell on his poor busted arms.

Event: Things with his AU backstory are still a bit loose at the moment, but AU Izuku is going to be acting VERY different from normal by sheer virtue of the AU - namely, he is going to end up very noticeably more outgoing and self-assured, enough for his desire to help everyone to manifest as him being That Nosy Neighbor. The sort of person who insists on striking up a conversation on sight if you don't look busy enough, and who will probably end up asking what you're doing anyway even if you do. Being less anxious and concerned about how he's perceived socially is also going to have him sticking his foot in his mouth more frequently, mostly because not overthinking things as much means more instances of his brain-to-mouth filter not kicking in. He'll still feel bad about being rude or saying things he shouldn't, but he's going to end up doing it far more often than normal. He's also a part-time delivery boy (or handyman, still haven't decided) so the risk of being socially ambushed by him is constant and unpredictable.

Obviously I'd love to set up various AU relationships for him, and I encourage people to have their characters AU selves have some opinion of him even if we never end up getting to have them directly interact! wonderfully relaxing walk too if it weren't for that meddling kid--"

Internal: Something I want to try to achieve with Izuku this month is getting him to finally sit his ass down and process certain events that occurred prior to Izuku's canonpoint...ones that involve the bullying that forms the core of his backstory. He's not going to talk to anyone about that unless they pin him down and force it out of him, but conversations that can steer him towards thinking about it and about his complicated feelings afterwards are something I'd love to do with any CR up for it. He is not going to go to his castmates about it, but since he's been skirting around the edge of it for the past couple of months friends or supportive and sympathetic strangers can get him to open up if they press just right (though the former will naturally get more details out of him than the latter).

Obviously this'll be paused during the event, but depending on how much he remembers afterwards and what certain AU relationships end up being it might actually help push him towards this. Watch this space, I guess!

How can you run into my character? Izuku's settled himself into just doing odd jobs about Aldrip as his main source of income, mostly because he just wants to be helpful to others and kept getting paid for it. So he can be encountered generally out and about, most often running deliveries and helping with manual labor. (The fact that the latter doubles as a way to exercise means he can sometimes be caught working too much, please yell at him)

He's also part of the sewing club and Teens With Abilities & Talents (he cannot bring himself to call it TWAT because he will die of embarrassment if he tries) so he's at the club building pretty frequently. He can also be found there using the gym as an exercise space when the weather's bad, or at the town library if he's got something he wants to research.

He'll be just as Everywhere during the event, and possibly even moreso!

Background: Nerd who likes tokusatsu, silly little gadgets and puzzles... But hides that she likes them because she doesn't want to be seen as childish. But is trying to get better at making friends.

Oh, and she's a detective. That might be important.

Abilities:
- She can summon a persona, her's is ~~Oscar~~ majestic birdman.
- Because reasons, she's a 16-year-old with a lot of experience with guns
- She has a scooter license

???: So Naoto is a teengirl, but she dresses in masculine clothing and generally looks like a 12-year-old boy. And no, she doesn't bother to correct people if they mistake her gender.
