CR MEME/PLOT WITH ME: SEPTEMBER 2023

CR MEME/PLOT WITH ME

Welcome to Expiation's CR meme! This is a post where players can plot with each other on the direction they'd like to go for the month, and so on and so forth. There's a form below for you to fill out below, so get plotting!

The SOTG for September is here, with changes and where the game is going for the month.

SEPTEMBER EVENT SUMMARY

MORE

EVENT SUMMARY: THE MAZE

On the night of September 10, an impenetrable fog covers the town of Aldrip. When characters wake in the morning, they find that Aldrip has disappeared, replaced by a large, enclosed maze.

Characters will wake up in one of three different levels of this maze, and they may—but don't have to—find that they are not alone. As they explore the maze, they will encounter trials and stumbling blocks both physical and mental. It seems the maze is testing them, poking at their fears, their past, their feelings. Confronting these questions about themselves and their very nature will allow them to progress through the maze in hopes of eventually finding the exit—and hopefully the town along with it.

While they do not all wake up in the same level of the maze, all characters do, in theory, have to complete all three trials in order to leave. This may not be so easy to achieve; due to the nature of these trials, if someone cannot get past one area, they may remain stuck there. Other characters are able to help them confront these issues, and may instead (or in addition) pass through that way if they choose to. Aside from the level where they wake up, characters may approach these levels in any order as they so choose.

Characters wake up in the groupings listed below. Each group letter corresponds to the letter of the trial where they wake up. After you leave your initial trial, you may meet with characters outside your group!

TRIAL A

While exploring the maze, characters begin to experience hallucinations and illusions that highlight their greatest insecurities. These illusions may come in a variety of different forms. Perhaps they experience voices or images of peers issuing criticisms that they fear are accurate, or they may face a shadowy figure that bears their appearance that embodies all of their worst qualities. The form these illusions take is up to you, the players, and whether other characters are able to see those illusions can also be decided between players. Confronting, challenging, debunking, and/or accepting these criticisms and claims is the key to exiting this level.

TRIAL B

During their time in this level of the maze, characters will at some point find their way blocked by representations of their deepest fears. This can be literal—a dark hallway for those who fear the dark, as an example—but can manifest in a myriad of other ways, too. A character could see someone from their past that represents this fear, or a monster, or an object or memory of something that connects to that fear. These fears will be made tangible and visible to anyone around them, leaving them exposed and vulnerable. In order to progress, they must be able to pass by these fears, and may do so in any way the player chooses, whether it requires fighting a monster, negotiating with an authority figure, finding a light in the darkness, or anything else players and characters can imagine.

TRIAL C

On this level, characters are confronted with memories related to the crime they have been charged with. This can be a specific moment or a series of moments related to their crime either directly or indirectly. Characters may become lost in these memories and may need help navigating through them from other people: the longer they remain lost in these memories, reliving them again and again, the more they run the risk of losing those memories entirely, either permanently or temporarily. Only by addressing the crime, the way they feel about it, the relationship that crime has to reality and to who the character is, can characters be free of this particular trial.

ADDITIONAL INFO

Those characters (or players) who do not wish to interact with the maze will occasionally find quiet corridors that mysteriously place them outside the maze, unable to reenter. They will find that the town is, indeed, gone, as are their living quarters—hope you don't mind roughing it for a while. However, due to recent efforts to bolster the town's supplies, some of the underground storehouses organized by Claude and Marianne seem to remain intact and are available as temporary emergency shelter, should your character choose not to camp out.

After a week, the maze will disappear and life in Aldrip returns to normal. As for the locals? They don't seem to notice that anything strange has happened at all. Maze? What maze? Strange weather we're having this week, eh?

Character: Kotone Shiomi
Canon: Persona 3 Portable
Canon Point: March 5th (endgame)

Crime: Duplicity

Background/Personality:
As the female protag of Persona 3, Kotone's story focuses a lot on accepting death and trying to make the most of the time she has. If you want to avoid spoilers for Persona 3 (especially with reload coming out next year), please let me know! I'm happy to avoid them.

In summary, she tends to be a cheerful, energetic girl who enjoys spending time with people, getting to know them, and in general prioritizing others over herself.

Abilities:
Kotone can summon a manifestation of her soul called a Persona. As a "wildcard," she has several of them in her heart at any given moment -- they're detailed in her app. (cw: description of suicidal imagery) Summoning them does require pointing an object shaped like a gun at her own head, though.

Plans:
Kotone has been working to make town a place where people can feel comfortable and at home. She can be found normally either a) trying to recruit people to join her social clubs (sewing, cooking, or scott's "teens with powers" club) or b) working part-time as a server/bartender at Dazai's Bar Lupin. She lives with Astralin at his farmhouse!

As part of Group A, she'll be dealing with the insecurity that she's not cut out to be a leader, and that actually, if someone else had been the leader during Various Events, things would have turned out differently. She wants to be someone people can rely on when they're in trouble, so she'll be facing the fear that maybe she can't always do that. I'm thinking illusory characters will be accusing her of that. These can take the form of canonmates or CR in game! If you're interested in Kotone seeing an illusion of your character, please let me know! 👀

For Trial B, this will be the fear of failure and being forgotten. This will deal somewhat heavily with spoilers for Persona 3, but right now I'm thinking it will take the form of her becoming intangible and starting to lose herself to Apathy Syndrome. (cw: depression) She represses a lot of her own depression behind a mask of "everything's fine! 👍" and that will become much harder on this floor. Expect her to be more lethargic and apathetic. I'd love someone (or multiple someones!) to help her get through this to pass the trial, rather than a physical fight.

For Trial C, her crime is duplicity -- in short, lying and hiding her true feelings. This ties in somewhat with Trial B, but in this one, I'm thinking she'll have to confess to others the various things she's lied about while in game. Confessing that she relies on her Personas to help decide what to say to someone and sometimes says what she thinks people want to hear instead of what she really thinks, telling the truth about her (spoilers!) situation back home or her relationships with other characters (namely Shinjiro and Ryoji).

These are just some ideas! If anything sounds fun to you, lmk! And of course, feel free to add me on plurk for plotting as well; it's where I tend to do most of my brainstorming.

Character: Yu Narukami
Canon: Persona 4
Canon Point: post-true ending

Crime: Loyalty

Background/Personality: Yu is kind of Just A Normal Guy who happens to have like a bunch of demons attached to his soul. It's fine. He's also smart, hard-working, and can't keep himself from getting involved in other peoples' business. He's been playing it pretty chill since arriving, because back home, all of that Persona stuff is over and done with. That's about to stop though, oh boy!!

Beneath that cool exterior, Yu is kind of dorky and just a tad lonely, so he relies on his friends a lot for strength. Making this even more fun.

Abilities: Inexplicable sword usage and aforementioned soul demons. His app has information about the ones he has equipped

Plans: My super secret evil plan is to make him some more friends. That's basically it so far. He's been working a lot and getting to know the town, poking his nose into things and gathering info. He's gonna be really interested to try out the tablets and is going to go on a whole journey on the 10th of being totally alarmed by the fog and then reassuring himself that It's Fine. And then it's not.
MAZE STUFF.
He's starting in Trial C, which is going to be his biggest struggle. He'll be there long enough that anyone who's going through the other trials will be able to find and help him after a while -- and he's going to need some help. His crime is loyalty, and he's yet to figure out why or how that was assigned, or how it's a bad thing. In his mind, he's relating it to his reliance on his friends, so he's going to be going through his memories with them. He'll be there long enough that he'll start to forget some of those memories and maybe even some of those friends. Haven't decided whether it'll be permanent or temporary -- leaning toward temporary, but who knows!!

Trial A will be him facing off against a "shadow" version of himself in the style of Persona 4. (Yeah yeah I know Arena did it but he's main game flavor so there!!) Playing on his troubles from Trial C, a lot of his insecurities are related to his friends: who he is without them, fears and worries that they will grow apart, and how much trouble he has relying on other people in any way that matters.

Trial B is going to be sort of a nice break for him after how intense the first two trials were. He'll be facing his own empty home and the baggage that comes with how busy and unavailable his family is, but more than that, he'll be available to help other people work through their fears. This can either be by moral support or by boss battles -- it'll be the first time he's really used his Persona abilities since arriving here, so it'll be fun!

Character: Noel Kreiss
Canon: Final Fantasy XIII trilogy
Canon Point: After fighting Lightning in Lightning Returns

Crime: Reckless endangerment

Background/Personality: Noel has been trying recently to see things from other peoples' points of view, and trying to come out of his Shadow Hunter box as much as possible. He's determined not to slip back into that grimness, but he's also having a lot of trouble opening up to other people. Sssooo this event is gonna help with that. Forcibly.

Abilities: Standard Final Fantasy magic, as well as swordfighting and sometimes he can pretend to be a pokemon master with the monsters.

Plans: Noel has been putting a lot of effort into rebuilding and is excited to see the houses available for him to...put his stuff in and spend a lot of his time elsewhere. He's going to be planning a trip out to the desert at some point (on foot...side eyes at the fairies). It'll be a good way to channel all of his upcoming existential maze trauma.
MAZE STUFF
Somehow Noel is in the murder group (Group B), I guess RNG really has feelings about his feelings about his backstory. ANYWAY. He'll be facing his fears about being alone, meaning he's going to be once again wandering through the Dying World for a bit. I haven't decided yet, but I might have Caius or Caius's final boss Jet Bahamut make an appearance, for ultimate boss battle nonsense. This is probably going to be the easiest level of the maze, so he'll be available to help others a lot with their trials!

He'll be heading for Trial C next, where he'll get to relive a number of people dying in his arms and might even face off against Lightning again. Oh boy. Anyone who wants to learn more about his past (either the whole "last human" bit or the 500 years old part), this is the place. Funny enough, he won't be having a ton of trouble with this part, since he feels pretty secure in his involvement with his past. But he will be very available to help other people should they need someone very opinionated to shake them a lot. In fact, that's probably what I'll be focusing on for this level of the maze with him!

Trial A is going to be hardest for him, and he'll be stuck here for the rest of the event. He'll be hearing voices and seeing visions of friends, in turns accusing him of causing their deaths and also...absolving him of guilt, which is going to actually be worse. He has struggled for a long, long time with the fact that he blames himself for Serah's death, but no one else does. So he won't be able to get past this level because he's not able to accept that her death (and the end of the world) is actually not his fault.

???: look i COULD go back through FF13 tfln again or i could get more coffee, and right now coffee is winning

Emet-Selch | Final Fantasy XIV

[personal profile] emet_sulk 2023-09-01 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Chips
Contact: DM to this journal or my other character [personal profile] strengthofwill

Character: Emet-Selch
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV
Canon Point: 5.0 Shadowbringers - the nebulous time around the Warrior of Light's departure from Eulmore to their fleeing to Il Mheg

Crime: "Mass genocide and failure to treat other living persons with respect."

Background/Personality: Emet-Selch is the main antagonist of the Shadowbringers expansion. Known to most as an 'Ascian', he is considered a paragon amongst others of his kind, along with two others. His current guise, however, is that of the first emperor of the Garlean Empire - Solus zos Galvus. First impressions paint him as a grumpy, dour man who acts a lot older than he looks. But get to know him better and maybe you'll see that he cares more than he lets on.

Abilities: He is functionally a god to most "normal, human" characters. He can create things out of seemingly nothing and is an incredibly strong mage. At least, he was before the nerf by Expiation.

Plans:
He will be beginning with Trial B, representation of one's deepest fears. There's several possibilities that I could go with here:

- The "he tries to go back in time to change the future and it fails" option. Without going too deeply into spoilers, it would be a vision drawn from the cause of the Final Days with potential outcomes varying greatly. There could be meteors raining from the sky, black birds assaulting people, or even something as simple as his efforts backfiring and getting him expelled from the seat of Emet-Selch. The solution to this one would probably be helping him accept that he can't change his own fate (although this would be rather difficult).

- He is left to fight the Ascians' cause alone, growing even more bitter and closed off. This will probably manifest as countless bodies of his masked brethren wherever he walks. The solution to this would be to show him that he's not alone.

- His memories of the ancient days grow warped and he forgets aspects of them. This will manifest as his surroundings seeming harmless but it will distress him as he spots things incorrect about them, until he can no longer trust his own memory. The solution to this would be helping him come to terms with the fact that no-one's memory is perfect but that doesn't mean what he does remember has any less value.

For trial A: the main insecurity he has is that he is not suitable for the position of Emet-Selch as he was not the first choice for the seat at the time.

For trial C: this is simple as there would simply be countless bodies. The more difficult part is that Emet-Selch feels no remorse about them. I can reference several different eras from FF14 history here depending on what people would like their character to experience.

- Garlemald ('cyberpunk' sort of empire) conquering/subjugating other regions
- Allag (futuristic empire) performing morally questionable experiments on living creatures
- Other regions/times would verge more towards headcanon, like the War of the Magi which resulted in the Calamity of Water

I'm open to other people's ideas if they want to encounter Emet, all that said. He IS very old so he can offer his very unwarranted, very blunt advice to anyone struggling.

Character: Astralin Turnont
Canon: Original Character
Canon Point: Modern times

Crime: Second degree murder

Background/Personality: Astralin was basically set to be a prince when he was younger, but his family turned their back on nobility so that never happened. He's just a simple farmer now, but he's been through some shit in his childhood (basically kidnapping and torture). After he recovered from the ordeal, he ended up being really paranoid about people and tried to keep his powers under wraps. He's a prodigy of sorts, and comes from a strong magical bloodline so it makes him a target for people who want his powers. Homeboy doesn't catch a break because war breaks out in his world, and he's targeted by the person that started the war but managed to stay in hiding while helping the resistance. After the war, and shifting more toward modern times, he's very much a Dad and a Grandpa. He works under his granddaughter, Marie (who is the current headmistress of prestigious magic school), as a combat instructor of sorts. tl;dr he helps kids hone their abilities, while still being a farmer on the side.

Abilities:
- Spirit Magic: He has the ability to take raw energy, and convert it into magic disks that he can throw. These disks can immediately vaporize his target, and basically cause a lot of destruction in his wake. He tries not to use this ability as much, as it uses quite a bit of energy and it's overpowered. It's basically nuclear powers. (Will be unable in Expiation)

- Scythe Proficiency: His main weapon is a scythe. He can move around quickly, and do aerobic flips with his scythe to perform his attacks. There's a lot of spinning, and flipping involved with his scythe, so he has fun with it. There's also a weightless enchantment on the scythe to make it easy to move around with.

- Ice magic: Astralin can summon icicle spears with his ice magic, and use it as a throwing weapon. He can also conjure up an ice shield to protect himself or someone else if they're in trouble. General ice abilities, like diamond dust and ice spears.

He has a creationism ability with his ice magic. He's able to create simple things, such as vases, flowers, ice sculptures, chairs, furniture and what have you. Just simple things like that. He is also able to preserve food and flowers by infusing his ice magic into those items.

- Restorative Magic: Surprisingly, despite his aloof nature, he is a proficient healer. He can mass heal those around him who are injured, without using too much of his power. He can heal through deep wounds, and can save people from the brink of death. (Nerf in Expiation: Not able to heal from the brink of death, but he can heal wounds, fractures and broken bones.)

- Monster transformation: What it says on the tin, but he wouldn't actually use it here.

Plans: OH BOY.

Being in group A, he has two major insecurities. The first one, is that he thinks he's a murderer. He THINKS that he secretly enjoyed killing all the assassins that came after him, because he didn't feel anything when he did kill them, despite them having family. They were just doing their jobs so shouldn't he feel bad? NOPE.

The other major insecurity he has is with his partners, surprisingly, but this stems from his younger self, mainly. But he sometimes wonders if he's just the extra person in his marriage, and if his partners are just tolerating him because they don't want to hurt his feelings.

Lastly, he hates being called a prodigy. He doesn't think that he is, and he hates that people refer to him as such. His parents never set the expectation on him but his estranged family does, and boasts about him on a superficial level. HE ALSO HATES IT because he's worried that his siblings despise him for being put on a pedestal that he never wanted to be put on. He doesn't want to be treated differently, since he's just a farmhand at heart.

As for the other trials, he'll probably go ahead and help other people once they're out of the first room!

Character: Sooyoung Han
Canon: Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
Canon Point: Chapter 516

Crime: Writing a novel

Background/Personality: A self-proclaimed genius beautiful girl writer, Sooyoung is a distrustful and selfish person. Warming up to people doesn't come easily to her, but once she does, you won't get a note... instead, she's going to take care of you while still pretending to be the bad guy. Sooyoung enjoys riling people up just for sport, especially when said person gets worked up over her comments. She's very confident and has an affinity for ending up in dangerous/stupid situations.

Abilities:

▪ Avatar: Sooyoung can make clones of herself, but the caveat is that she has to infuse every clone with at least one memory. In other words, it's absolutely possible for others to see 5 Sooyoungs at the same time, she's definitely going to use this to mess with people.
▪ Eye of Truth: It's a canon thing which makes her aware of people's skill, but here's Sooyoung can be only vaguely aware that someone possesses a special ability. Not going to use that unprompted, though.
▪ Lie Detection: Sooyoung can confirm whether a person she's interacting with is lying or not. She won't use this without permission.
▪ Poker Face: a skill that makes it impossible to tell if she's lying or not. She's a great liar without it, though. I welcome everyone to look through her bullshit.
▪ Black Flames: Sooyoung can summon powerful black flames, manipulate them at will and infuse weapons with them.
▪ Advent of Half-God: her sponsor Abyssal Black Flame Dragon can manifest part of his consciousness into Sooyoung after she recites an incantation. She can use the dragon's powers and becomes a powerful chuuni (and hates it).

Plans: Sooyoung's been mostly wandering around alone and messing up with people so far which is pretty much on brand for her. During this event, I'd love her to start using her powers, especially Avatar to either bring messing up with people to the next level or... well, it would be unfortunate if one of her clones got into a really bad accident, right??

Trial B is Sooyoung's starting point and the representation on her fears will be a man in a white coat (this is a recurring theme for some reason, thanks orv) who will never answer her questions. At some point, she'll get really pissed which will trigger a demon transformation for the man and he'll start attacking everyone nearby. To make things more extra, he won't disappear until someone pierces his heart.

Trial A will involve meeting an illusion of Sooyoung wearing a white coat (told you that this is a recurring theme) who can casually criticize not only her but anyone in the vicinity (with player permission, of course). Sooyoung herself would dismiss WhiteCoat!Sooyoung's assessment quite fast, but it doesn't have to apply to the other characters. It'll be possible to fight WhiteCoat!Sooyoung, too.

Trial C will be the most confusing one to her as it's going to be showing two memories connected to her crime—writing a novel and visiting a boy in the hospital. The letters of the novel will be blurry so no one will be able to read it (Sooyoung included). The same applies to the boy's face. Honestly, she won't understand much of it and she doesn't even think that writing a novel is a crime, so she's going to be stuck there until the maze disappears.

Character: Claude von Riegan
Canon: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Canon Point: Mid-timeskip

Crime: Deception

Background/Personality: As the Duke of his region, Claude is the leader of the Leicester Alliance, thrown suddenly into power after the death of his grandfather as war in his neighbouring regions lurks at his doorstep. From his canonpoint, he was consumed largely with politics and attempting to efficiently rule his region while biding his time for the right point at which to enter the war effort himself. Unbeknownst to others, his true ambitions for power stems from his desire to rid the world of racism and prejudice, due to his own personal backstory. As a result, he tends to hold others at arms length, and few know anything about who he truly is; he's personable and friendly, quick with a tease or a joking word, and asks enough questions about other people that they tend not to probe too much into him as a result. He cares deeply about the people around him, but remains a pragmatic thinker who tries to be two steps ahead of everyone else.

Abilities: He's an extremely skilled archer (usually on wyvernback), a master tactician, and an experienced politician used to juggling and manipulating several different factions at a time. He has access to some minor magic, but he sucks at them.

Plans: Emboldened by his and Marianne's recent success, Claude is going to be intent on keeping the ball rolling in ensuring that the Chosen get a voice during crucial events and are able to protect the city as their own for their time being. As intent as he is on unlocking the mysteries of this place and finding a way home, he's motivated by his inherent desire to prevent bloodshed as well as his inability to not pry into every little thing. He'll also be available for more slice of life nonsense, if that tickles anyone's fancy! I'd like for him to continue forging bonds with others, and hopefully managing to lower some of his walls -- something some shared trauma will definitely help with!

As for the event itself: I definitely want to play with it! The prevailing themes will be that of insecurity based off of his expectation of rejection and being unlovable once he dispenses with his facade, his fear of his dreams coming to naught and leading all he loves down the wrong path, and the crime of deceiving everyone of his true identity and his true intentions. There will be personal background spoilers for his character in there, but I'm not sure how long to warn for a game as old as this one! I'll also note that racism-fueled prejudice and violence will probably be featured heavily in at least one of those routes; I still need to figure out how I'd like them to manifest! I'm also more than happy to have him bear witness to and try helping others through their visions.

???: I'm gonna be honest, I always feel like I should put some fanart or something here, but I have no clue how to resize images.

Sigma | Bungo Stray Dogs

[personal profile] ticket218 2023-09-01 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Player: Gray
Contact: PM

Character: Sigma
Canon: Bungo Stray Dogs
Canon Point: Chapter 106.5

Crime: Counterfeiting, expanded on below

Background/Personality: A man who popped out of thin air after being written into existence via a reality-altering book. He has since become the world's most accomplished three-year-old, being the manager of a giant flying casino that's now been taken from him, but his uncertain place in the universe and the company he's kept has been a real damper on his self esteem. Will be the straight man to your funny man for the cost of lots and lots of complaining. He's a pretty chill guy when not being intentionally poked at, though.

Abilities: Sigma can exchange information through touch. The other party learns what they most want to know from him at the moment, and he learns what he most wants to know from them at the moment. Depending on the amount of information, the recipient may pass out from their brain having too much to process.

Sigma can also extract information from fresh corpses this way, presumably while the brain is still technically "alive."

Note: IC permission isn't necessary for this to work, but I'll always always always be getting your go-ahead first before trying to do it to your characters.

Plans:
Trial C- Sigma's crime is Counterfeiting and it's time to finally drop the pretense it could be the legal counterfeiting he actually did when the parchment is referring to him being a counterfeit human, hooray! He'll be reliving his first few days/months alive, which means a virtually endless expanse of desert that'll only be dotted by a run down church he'll eventually find and hunker down in. There will be little to no sound made by anyone walking or interacting with things, emphasizing a feeling of emptiness and solitude that'll keep being a theme for the rest of his trials, but speech will be heard just fine.

Trial B- In a cozy looking living room a family is sharing a warm moment together. They're talking, laughing, loving being in each other's company, but it's all muffled by a thick sheet of glass at the edge of the room. On the other side there's no light, no warmth, just Sigma who can't break the glass nor communicate with the family no matter how hard he tries. Anyone else coming into this scene will be able to move through the glass just fine, as if it isn't there at all, and the family will react as if they're another member or a beloved friend.

The family doesn't look like anyone in particular--the mind may just fill in their faces and provide "ah yes, that's a family" similar to dream logic.

Trial A- (CW: Body horror, child endangerment?) A weird insecurity for Sigma is his age and inexperience. For this it'll take the form of a child, operating on similar logic as the above family to fill in what another person or Sigma himself thinks he might have looked like as a preschooler only when he's being directly looked at. In peripherals the child might shift and warp, and details will be different when observed again. Should the child be physically harmed, he'll rip as easily as paper, and bleed what looks like ink.

He'll also be available to help anyone out in their respective trials! He doesn't exactly have wisdom or experience to offer, but he does have a go-getter attitude and a softness that can be pulled out in the right situations.

Character: G'raha Tia
Canon: FFXIV
Canon Point: Patch 6.3

Crime: Erasure of an entire timeline

Background/Personality:
A sweet precious little meow meow G'raha has a rather interesting background. He essentially has a PhD in Allagan studies, but he also has what is known as the Allagan Eye - so he has a certain "affinity" for anything dealing with Allag. G'raha locked himself up for like 200 years and then got sent back in time and waited another 100 years to stop a lot of bad things from happening. Then his 300 yr+ soul gets put into his 24 yr old body and poof! It's a fun time.

He's someone who has a huge guilt/martyr complex. Definitely someone who works hard to prove that he's worth having around. That's why G'raha is as helpful as can be. But also bratty and sharp tongued. Excitable from time to time as well.

Abilities:
He is a paladin/white mage/black mage. So he can transition between using restorative magicks and destructive ones. G'raha can conjure a shield and blade with the ambient aether around him.

Plans:

Trial B is where he will be starting. I believe his greatest fear, here, is failure. Specifically, failure to stop the events of the Calamity from happening - even though he already has. Perhaps he would think the success a passing dream or some form of illusion. Or maybe even that there had still been some Black Rose left and it is starting to spread like a plague. Lots of different ways to play around with this one. Either way, there will involve a lot of death.

Alternatively, becoming trapped once more in the Crystal Tower. That could be fun too.

Trial A will deal with his feelings of inadequacy. That he isn't good enough to be counted among the Scions of the 7th Dawn. Or that he really had been better off in the Crystal Tower since no one missed him.

And Trial C might be interesting considering it will somewhat tie into B. G'raha will be experiencing memories from the time he had been the Crystal Exarch. Or maybe it will be memories pertaining to right before jumping back in time/across the rift. Due to his actions, there may be people that will never be born. The people he had met may cease to exist. Interesting to play around with, at any rate.

Character: Tsunayoshi Sawada
Canon: Katekyou Hitman Reborn
Canon Point: Post-series

Crime: Literally getting involved with Organized Crime

Background/Personality: When we first meet Tsuna, he's your average high school loser with not a lot of ambition to speak of. So, his mom gets him a tutor. Said tutor is actually the world's greatest hitman and a toddler and Tsuna is actually the heir to a powerful mafia family. He really doesn't want to be the Boss, but someone's got to herd these cats. He's reluctant to admit that information though.

Otherwise, Tsuna is your average teenager. He has a high tolerance for weirdness and can get along with difficult people fairly well. He's an open sky, happy to be friends with just about anyone, even if you have to have a fistfight first. He can be a bit of a weenie, but he tries his best.

Abilities: Tsuna uses Dying Will Flames to fight, which are kind of like an excited life force. He also has a Hyper Intuition which allows him to pick up vibes and generally get a sense if someone is lying to him. I usually try not to rely on that, so let me know if you want to play around with it.

Plans:
-Tsuna is in Group A for the event, so we'll definitely be having some fun with his insecurities. Mostly he's worried about his friends leaving him, or not having the ability to protect them properly.
-Should he get to Trials B and C, I'm looking at a lot more mafia-related stuff specifically. Trial B will definitely involve Xanxus or a colder, proper Mafia boss version of Tsuna. Trial C will probably deal with Tsuna's concern over the Vongola Family's history. So basically if you want to learn about what Tsuna's been hiding, here we are.
-Definitely gonna get this boy a house, and when shit's not going down, probably get him to explore more. He has tentative plans to return to the desert and follow up on this Tresed business.

Character: Goro Akechi
Canon: P5R
Canon Point: end of third semester

Crime: Faking a personality

Background/Personality: Grumpy murder goblin who's daddy issues are over 9000!! he's a nerd who wants you to know just how smart he is! idk, I suck at these.

Abilities: He's pretty good at using guns with flawless aim, decent at using his breadknife sword. But more importantly: he got some brain demons aka Personas. Akechi can summon the manifestation of his soul in form of Robin Hood and Loki, giving him access to both Bless and Curse magic along with some physical attacks.

Plans: The general cr! he needs more friends. or even people talk to.

AS FOR THE MAZE!

- Akechi is going to start with group murder B, so insecurities it is! What a good start, considering that this boy is nothing but insecurity and repressed anxiety. TLDR; most of Akechi's issues (both fears and anxiety) stem from the same place: feeling of being not being good enough, broken and generally unworthy of love. The Unwanted Child things. So be prepared for those daddy issues because wow.

- Trial B: Here Akechi is having a reunion with a familiar face. His reaction is of course going to be violence and be able to trigger Loki! So, if anyone wants to be there for brain demon's debut now is your chance. There might or might not also be some glimpses of his father, which will have him go even more violent.

So here I offer you: death. if not death, then at least injuries from moderate to severe. Your character can be a collateral of Akechi's rage or try to calm him down. Don't worry, someone is bound to have healing abilities right?

- Trial A: CW for suicide and death.

So for the fears we go see more of his past and stuff that he carries with him. This will touch the event in his canon when he shoots Akira ([personal profile] chemex). So there might be visions of bloody and dead phantom thief taunting him, you know stuff from your nightmares. Other than that: there will be a memory of his mother's suicide and the moment he found her body as a child. Akechi blames himself for her death and is kind of the root of his issues for the most part. This is the trial he'll struggle with the most because what can you do when violence doesn't work? Well, maybe the answer is forgive himself and show some of that self-love? Or maybe he'll stay stuck there haunted by these memories until he goes even more unhinged.

Trial C: Feeling worthless and inadequate led him to his crime of Faking a Personality. SO! Here you have one in life time to meet the one and only Detective Prince! He's nothing but a pleasant boy who wants to uncover the truth and serve as a champion of justice. Murders? Conspiracy? What are those. Come all, he'll give you an autograph and be ditzy genius.

Character: Ethlyn
Canon: Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Canon Point: Ethlyn and her husband Quan rejoin the party from the bottom of the map while Sigurd and co. are up at the top, and then the two of them get AMBUSHED and because there's a huge swath of desert! you can't get your primarily-mounted units across in time so you have to watch them SLOWLY GET CUT TO PIECES

Crime: "The crimes of the Grannvale Empire."

Background/Personality: Ethlyn is a noblewoman born in Grannvale and raised to be responsible and have integrity as a descendent of the heroic Crusaders. Sadly, not all the other Crusader houses had the same feelings, so they became rivals. Her mother died when she was about 12, and Ethlyn had to become the lady of the house because her father Byron and brother Sigurd became slovenly and careless in their grief. As a result, Ethlyn has as overdeveloped sense of responsibility, is a workaholic, and her kindness and caring sensibility can get fussy and overbearing. A quick way to sum up Ethlyn's flaws is that she thinks she's the sensible one, but it's only in comparison to her downright hubristic relations.

When her brother got in over his head trying to rescue a friend, Ethlyn and her husband rode out to help. The rescue mission snowballed into invading half the continent, and Grannvale followed in their wake to snap up new territories and create an Empire--something Sigurd and Ethlyn did not like.

She is genuinely a kind and well-intentioned person who wants the best for those around her and takes her job as a healer very seriously. She founded the Arztenritter (aka: EMTs on horseback) shortly after arriving in Expiation. At the moment, her tendency to work constantly and pay little attention to her own needs is catching up to her, especially since some of her trauma from canon got trodden on last month. Because the other thing is that Ethlyn and her husband were ambushed and killed in a desert battle that later became known as the Aed Massacre.

Abilities:
Healing: Ethlyn is primarily a healer! She was good at it at home and now that she has access to medical textbooks that know what a spleen is for, she's better.
Swords: She is slightly divinely blessed to be very good at swordfighting.
Horseback riding: Also very good at it.

Plans: Ethlyn is starting in group A, which means she'll be confronting her insecurities. Those insecurities have a lot to do with her death, specifically the fact that she chose to bring her child to a dangerous situation--the fact that she doesn't know what happened to her daughter gnaws at her soul. She's also afraid that she brought about the death of herself and her husband by giving him his ancestral weapon, which is said to carry a curse against lovers... so she'll probably be seeing the Gae Bolg around a lot. Getting more reminders about her death is definitely going to impede her, but she's going to do her best to help others if she sees them in need of it.

As far as trial B goes, it's probably going to look a lot like trial A (the worst thing has kind of happened to her already). For Trial C, seeing the aftermath of what happened to the places that her family rolled through, the fall of her and her husband's country, etc... basically the consequences of not accounting for massive power vaccuums and whatnot.

Outside the event, the fog will show Ethlyn her children... as they exist in the latter half of FE4 and/or FE5. On the one hand, she'll finally have confirmation that they survived the death of their parents, yay! On the other, it's going to fuck her up a lot. Especially since Altena ends up being raised by the man who killed Ethlyn and will look like him and Ethlyn and Ethlyn's husband.

In a more overall sense, my goal is for Ethlyn to realize how she can be held responsible for Grannvale's crimes due to her family's shortsighted actions. I'm really pleased with how other characters are starting to challenge her, even if it's unwittingly just asking her questions about things that she's taken totally for granted until now!

Character: Erichthonios
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV, that MMORPG that usually touts a pretty nifty free trial
Canon Point: the end of Patch 6.4 quest "Guided by the Past"

Crime: Rebellion

Background/Personality: Kind and compassionate, with a liiiittle bit of a temper when you hit his sore spots. Erichthonios spent much of his childhood among researchers in a facility known as Pandaemonium, which was headed by none other than his mother... and then his father, after her sudden demise.

He has family issues. Lots and lots of family issues.

Abilities:
Some pretty nifty binding magicks
Some simple creation magicks
Teleportation
Transforms into a raid boss

Plans:
Erichthonios is in Group B! This event is going to basically be him half reliving his hell week. And his buddies are in a different group this time, poor guy.

So, what does this look like for anyone stuck with him on this adventure?

First up, murderbirb. Everyone gets a raid boss, and it's the world's angriest angry bird. With three heads, sharp claws, reviving adds/familiars, and a knack for fire. A very strong knack for fire. You'll be facing off against the phoinix, Asphodelos' most unruly prisoner running wild and out of control, because the creations of Pandaemonium breaking loose from the prison-slash-research-facility is one of Erichthonios' greatest fears? Why? Because the bird wants to burn the world.

Up next for him is trial A, where his insecurities will be on full-display. Erichthonios is going to hear a reprise of voices that have mocked him in his past, most prominently featuring his mentor, his father, and his mother.

Lastly, we'll be rounding out with trial C, where we get to relive the memory of the moment Erichthonios' conflict with his father resulted in him falling under Hephaistos' control. This will mostly be a scene played out in front of those present. While it will be the easiest for him to handle psychologically, others can still get a look at how that rebellious spirit of his got him in some pretty deep trouble at one point. May or may not come with a dose of him getting abducted to another part of the maze to be trapped like in the icon -- I haven't decided yet. If anyone wants to play with that idea, let me know.

???: Someone please scrape him up after this is all done. He is going to be exhausted.

Player: Chips
Contact: DM this journal or my other character [personal profile] emet_sulk

Character: William G Maryblood
Canon: The Faraway Paladin
Canon Point: Before entering the Iron Mountain

Crime: Being a monster in human guise

Background/Personality: William was adopted and raised by a family of undead heroes after they rescued him from a group of demons intending to use him as a sacrifice. He grew up isolated from the world, but they taught him everything they knew so that he would be able to survive once he reached the age of maturity and left home. His middle and surname is a tribute to them: Au(G)ustus, Mary, and Blood. William's martial prowess and piety eventually earnt him the honour of being annointed a paladin. It is his life's goal to restore the name of his patron goddess, Gracefeel, and to fight against her sworn enemy, the god of undeath, Stagnate.

Abilities: He possesses the very typical abilities you would associate with a paladin. Wards against toxins, dark magic, the ability to steel his allies against fear etc., and also the power to lay the dead to rest. His physical strength is monstrous. He's not necessarily a spectacular mage but he's very good at adapting lesser spells to situations, which is more important than brute strength (as Gus taught him).

Plans:
William will be starting out with Trial C, which is related to his supposed crime: that of being a monster in human guise. This crime is related to a moment early in his career as a paladin where he made an error of judgement and found his band of adventurers surrounded by a large horde of monsters. During the fight, William overestimated how strong his companions were and this led to his good friend Menel being attacked by a chimera and left for dead.

When William saw his friend fall and the party starting to fall apart, he went berserk. Using the power of his life-stealing (i.e. vampiric regen) demonblade, he single-handedly cut down all their enemies. Although this prevented anyone else dying, it felt to him like a betrayal of his oaths to his adopted family (to use the demonblade without succumbing to its tempting power). This moment is also when he realised that his strength is monstrous compared to the average fighter.

Although William has already made his peace with that situation, it's still a rather graphic and shocking vision and paints him as quite a different person to how he currently is.

For Trial A, his greatest insecurities relate to not being able to lead a fulfilling life or failing to live up to Gracefeel's hopes for him. This would likely manifest in visions of his goddess turning away from him or abandoning him to the opposing god of undeath, Stagnate.

For Trial B, his deepest fears currently relate to the dragon he had been about to face in the Rust/Iron Mountain. He knows he's going to die. Gracefeel has told him so, and even Stagnate has told him so. Although he knows he has to go there, he knows he goes there to martyr himself - and that frightens him.

Needless to say, be prepared to see a huge-ass dragon.

Ethlyn will definitely want to work closely with Claude as leader of the Arztenritter! I bet they could get closer with working together on the logistics of that, and discussing how to integrate it into the overall emergency planning. Right now her method is to put out a call over the pendants when a big thing is going down but that could probably be improved a little.

FE4 also touches on themes of prejudice (it doesn't go as in-depth as 3H does, but it's definitely there), and Ethlyn's family has been raised to have prejudices against certain neighbors (dismissing them as savage barbarians, basically). I think it could be very interesting to have her experience that route with him because of that.

Anything Else?: I'm a nerd with too many hobbies and not enough time; the main ones, aside from rp, are video games, kyudo and crocheting!

Character: Ragna the Bloodedge
Canon: BlazBlue
Canon Point: At the end of BlazBlue: Centralfiction.

Crime: Destroying the world. Y'know, normal stuff.

Background/Personality: The world's most wanted criminal with the highest bounty in history on his head ─ a feat he's achieved by going around the world attacking and destroying various government facilities and killing hundreds of soldiers, earning himself the nickname "Grim Reaper". Generally speaking, he's kind of an asshole: he's rude, grouchy and cynical with hair-trigger temper that often leads to a rather liberal use of violence. Thing is, despite his deadly reputation and outward grumpiness, deep inside he's actually a genuinely kind and caring guy who'd do anything to protect his loved ones and always puts their happiness and well-being before his own (sometimes to a fault). He just has tons of emotional baggage that makes it really hard for him to actually open up.

tl;dr: he's a big dumb edgy tsundere with trust issues, do with that what you will.

Abilities: You can find the full summary here, but here's a short and sweet version:
- skilled in hand-to-hand combat, as well as sword fighting
- has access to a wide range of spells called Ars Magus, which technically aren't magic, but would probably appear as such to someone unfamiliar with the concept
- has ridiculous regenerating abilities that allow him to survive and more or less shake off most injuries that would otherwise be fatal (they still hurt tho)
- his personal special ability (aka Drive), Soul Eater, does exactly what it says on the tin: it allows him to absorb souls/life force of living things around him. He's got it mostly under control, but touching him or even staying around him for extended periods of time puts one at risk of him involuntarily sucking the other person's life out of them. Also, using it drastically decreases his own lifespan. Oops.
- should he ever lose control over his abilities, he's in danger of turning into a giant, world-destroying monster, but don't worry. It's fine. He's fine.

Plans: CR-wise, I welcome all of it, be it positive or negative! (I know, I know, very creative.) I'd especially like to find some people patient enough to stick around with Ragna despite his... everything. As much as he wants to keep people at an arm's length, persistence in dealing with him is the key to getting yourself a surprisingly loyal and protective ally. Eventually.

Or just go ahead and antagonize him, that's what everyone in his canon does anyway.

Now, as for the MAZE STUFF! First and foremost, due to some bad luck from the casino, Ragna will be losing his Azure Grimoire-related powers for the duration of the event, which on top of being unable to use his usual abilities means he won't be able to use his right arm and eye.

- He's starting in group A, and the insecurities trial will actually be the easiest for him to overcome ─ which is not to say it's all sunshine and butterflies. He will encounter an illusion of Nu-13, taunting him about his murderous and destructive tendencies; while he's more or less equipped to handle her thanks to his canon point, any other character showing up at the scene will cause Nu to go berserk and try to kill them because she's a massive yandere and extremely possessive of Ragna himself.

- For trial B, he will be going down the memory lane to the time he lost his family, which is his greatest fear; basically, it involves his house being set on fire, his foster mother getting murdered, his little brother trying to kill him and his little sister getting kidnapped. Fun for the whole family!

- Last but not least, in trial C, his crime is destroying the world... and it's gonna be exactly what it says on the tin: facing the memories and reality of the times when he turned into the Black Beast and completely obliterated the humanity. This will involve some general memory confusion, too, since it's an event that occurred in thousands of time loops under slightly different circumstances (e.g. at times he would willingly turn into the Black Beast, and sometimes he would be forced into it against his will).

That's the general idea I'm thinking of going with! Feel free to let me know here/on plurk/discord Overall he's gonna have an absolutely awful time, I can't wait!

Character: Caitlyn Kiramman
Canon: Arcane
Canon Point: end of s1

Crime: Treason against Piltover

Background/Personality: Caitlyn is the daughter of one of the Council members that run the city of Piltover. Instead of following in her mother's footsteps, she joined the Enforcers, the peacekeeping agency in the city. Determined to do good and actually make a difference, she uses her wit and keen eye to follow an investigation she's been denied access to, uncovering more corruption than she ever realized. This leads her to entering the bellows of the Undercity for the first time and learning what's really happening to the people there. She learns everything she thought about the Undercity is wrong, and that war between the Uppercity and Undercity is closer than ever.

Abilities: *Marksman: Caitlyn has EXCELLENT sharpshooting abilities and is considered to be one of the best in Piltover.

*Investigation: Caitlyn has a keen eye when it comes to connecting the dots in investigations. While not officially a detective, she uses her own cunning and perception to investigate on her own accord.

Plans: Caitlyn is starting in group A.

*Trial A: I'm thinking of maybe doing something with her issues with her family life? Given she separates herself from her family's power and wealth and wants to make a name for herself, the idea that she's just like all the other snobs in Piltover would bother her. Especially if she hears it coming from Vi. It's been a common argument with Jinx, too, that she believes she's not like other Enforcers and actually wants to make a difference, so being forced to stand up to those claims again would be interesting.

*Trial B: At her canon point, there's an explosion at the Council Headquarters, and she's basically been in denial about it since arrival. She's been terrified of the possibility that something may have happened to her mother, but refused to let herself think about it, since she's helpless to do anything while here. Confronted with that fear and seeing her mother dead would be painful lol.

*Trial C: Being that her crime is treason, which is something she didn't commit, I was thinking of maybe rolling with the scene where Marcus tries to arrest her, since he was working for Silco. Having her have to stand up to him and actually say her peace to him, since she didn't get that chance in canon.

Pretty much, yep! (:

I may have to just gloss over his insecurities trial in the end, idk, we'll see. Someone on plurk suggested I use his friendship with Azem for it, like what Azem's opinion of him might be... but I'm having a hard time running with the idea, because yeah, he isn't usually so insecure that he worries much about other people's opinions of him.

But like I said, fears/criminal memory are easier to pinpoint! His CR with other characters feeds into both in the sense of his friends being hurt in some way, this borrowed time coming to a premature end, etc. as well as the mild conflict of interests he's having with Emet-Selch. G'raha fits in there somewhere too, more into the criminal memory than the fears... though I suppose he could be made to reluctantly admit he doesn't want Emet-Selch to go after any of them, if Themis has any say in it. The criminal memory would def be in a "you did that and expect him to be okay with it later, bro?" kinda way.

(Still not sorry, though. :T)

I would love to have Ethlyn learn about the 500 years old and/or last human parts of his past!

Also, outside of Trauma Maze happenings, Ethlyn would love to learn how to ride a chocobo.

Awesome! Right now the Arztenritter mainly works out of one clinic and by having Ethlyn take to the network when an emergency happens, so her and Claude hashing out some improvements to the system would be cool.

so I TOTALLY DROPPED THE BALL on the network thread with him in the summer but!! I would love to have her see some of his Trials. She also lost her mother at a young age (although not from suicide) so she would do her best to help him come to terms with that.

I'm not exactly sure what I wanna do yet (that's what my weekend will be for) but I want more CR that might or might not involve shooting or killing each other...? I dunno, but I'll poke you on disc sometime later this weekend to hash out ideas ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

:eyes: lmao god, yes, their encounters have zero chill. The dragon is absolutely terrifying, like world-ending level of terrifying, but since William hasn't actually seen it yet the maze will likely throw an abstract interpretation of the dragon at him. So it'll be less about actually defeating it and perhaps more about accepting that it's the right thing to do?

Also I know I already have Emet signed up as a healer for the Artzenritter but I debated whether William would join as well as a proper member since he fits the bill.

Do the memories of their crime need to be literal replays of events that happened in canon, or can they be more metaphorical or “nightmare logic”-ish?
