Welcome to Expiation and come on down! We're thrilled to have you here! This intro entry serves additionally as a CR meme, so you are free to use it to say hello, tell us a bit about yourself, talk about your character, and potential plans for the game.

Crime: Loyalty (frysquint)

Background: A city kid who moved out to the country for a school year. Yu is quiet but charismatic, generally tries to keep on peoples' good sides and do what's right. He may be quiet, but that doesn't mean he has no personality -- he's very loyal to his friends, with a sometimes-unexpected sense of humor and keen observational abilities. And like any good protagonist, he absolutely refuses to mind his own business.

Abilities: Yu is a wildcard persona user, meaning he doesn't have just one. He has a sort of varied assortment of ones that he can summon (limited to 10, of course). Other than that, he has some decent powers of observation (I mean, he's no Detective Prince, but...), is moderately athletic in that high schooler sorta way, and has an uncanny ability to find trouble

Plans: Honestly I don't really have plans yet, he's just kinda vibing. He'll probably be looking into getting a weapon for just-in-case scenarios (I mean, he didn't exactly pack a katana in his duffel bag, so...), will also be interested in joining up with any clubs still happening and will definitely be looking into getting a part-time job. Or two. Or more. Generally, he'll want to be helpful while also trying to figure out what the hell is up with this place.

Canon Point: Lightning Returns, after his fight with Lightning

Crime: Reckless endangerment. It's still fucking him up, especially with Serah here :')

Background: A sad lonely boy from the future with a sad lonely past and an even sadder lonelier backstory. UH, but he doesn't talk about that much (except with ethlyn...apparently...she's just really good at asking questions okay), he'd rather tell you All Of His Opinions and try to figure out what the hell is going on. He's also over 500 years old but appears like a teenager. Sad lonely tired old man teen. It's great.

Abilities: He's a well-trained swordsman, a talented hunter, has standard Final Fantasy spells, and for some reason can minorly pokemon-style control monsters. Listen, FF13-2 was a wild game.

Plans: His top priority is figuring out what happened to the locals during that desert exploration, as well as figuring out whether they're at risk of having those brands come back at some point. He's also helping out with housing and doing his 500 different side jobs. Injured? He's happy to come help.

Crime: faking an identity

Background: ex-pancake detective and murder goblin.. ok, maybe that last part still applies. He's Really overachieving and overstressed babygirl that wants to return back to grave's soothing silence. Kinda. Idk he just wants you to know he did not consent to this otherworldy kidnapping and wants to kill a god.

Abilities: Like any other persona kid Akechi has an ability summon a Persona, a being that's more or less a representation of his soul. Being all about duality Akechi obviously has two Robin Hood and Loki. Thanks to them Akechi is able to use blessing, curse and almighty spells (and bonk people on the head very hard)

Plans: I've been pretty slow and taking this month easily while trying to meet my rl deadlines. Will still totes hit up the mingle log once it's up.

Akechi's finally putting his nerdy brain into use and trying to discover the truth behind the weird branding things and other events that's been going on in this world. I have another tdlr network post planned 👁️👄👁️ please bear with him

Crime: Breaking the oath of neutrality

Background: As the Coordinator of Kamihama City's magical girls, Mitama serves as a helpful guide and reliable ally to all hard-working girls! ... Or so she'd say. Mitama is a cheerful, lively girl who marches to the beat of her own drum, and has a bit of a mischeavous streak to her, as she enjoys teasing people and getting them into all sorts of hilarious trouble. She's the kind to plan parties and games and then drag everyone else into her fun nonsense, whether they like it or not (especially if they don't). She's happy to lend people an ear when they need it, and provides her magical services to everyone who wants it... provided they can pay the price.

But beneath all that perky and sunny persona, Mitama is extremely jaded and resentful as the result of her past experiences, and finds it difficult to truly trust others, instead choosing to hide behind her merry-go-lucky facade. That's not to say none of her usual act is real, however ─ she really does care deeply about her friends and clients, and she means well. Usually.

Abilities: Mitama is a magical girl, which comes with... A Lot of things, so feel free to check out the detailed summary here, but here's the tl;dr:
- her strength, agility, stamina and durability are far beyond those of a normal human
- her personal magic gives her the ability to access a person's soul and break it from within with curses; however, she intentionally uses it in reverse, giving her the ability of magical adjustment ─ she can strengthen other people's powers, as well as unlock their latent talents and new abilities
- doing the above also causes her to see some of the memories of the person she's adjusting ─ OOCly, this will of course only happen if the player gives their permission, but ICly... let's just say you won't be learning about that anytime soon. that's her blackmail material
- she needs a special item called Grief Seed to replenish her magical energy every so often; should she fail to do so, she will turn into a monster known as a Witch, which spreads disasters and curses among humans

- ... she's such a terrible cook it might as well be a special ability

Plans: Since she's brand new, she'll be settling in and learning how everything works... as well as looking into setting up her shop, but that's a story for another time. For long-term plans, I need to address some spoilers of the content that's only been released in Japanese, so I'll put it here:

Mitama is taken from the canon point where she's attempting to commit genocide, and, due to her trauma and grief, convinced herself that it's actually a good thing to do; since she's not in Kamihama anymore, however, she'll be adopting her usual Friendly Neighbourhood Magical Girl persona, but eventually, some cracks in it might start showing.

With that in mind, I'd love for her to find some friends and other positive influences who could maybe even see her mask slip a bit, and somewhere down the line make her realize how far she's gone; depending on how things go, I'm also considering going down a darker path where she ends up turning into a Witch (either as the extension of the above spoiler, or the realization of the weight of what she's done). I'm open to negative CR, too, of course, though admittedly it's hard to get under Mitama's skin or even get her to take things seriously. Mitama is perfect for dragging people out of their shells if need be, too, since she loves sticking her nose in other people's business. I think there are lots of fun possibilities there!

Ragna the Bloodedge

Character: Ragna the Bloodedge

Canon Point: At the end of BlazBlue: Centralfiction.

Crime: Destroying the world. Y'know, normal stuff.

Background: The world's most wanted criminal with the highest bounty in history on his head ─ a feat he's achieved by going around the world attacking and destroying various government facilities and killing hundreds of soldiers, earning himself the nickname "Grim Reaper". Generally speaking, he's kind of an asshole: he's rude, grouchy and cynical with hair-trigger temper that often leads to a rather liberal use of violence. Thing is, despite his deadly reputation and outward grumpiness, deep inside he's actually a genuinely kind and caring guy who'd do anything to protect his loved ones and always puts their happiness and well-being before his own (sometimes to a fault). He just has tons of emotional baggage that makes it really hard for him to actually open up.

tl;dr: he's a big dumb edgy tsundere with trust issues, do with that what you will.

Abilities: You can find the full summary here, but here's a short and sweet version:
- skilled in hand-to-hand combat, as well as sword fighting
- has access to a wide range of spells called Ars Magus, which technically aren't magic, but would probably appear as such to someone unfamiliar with the concept
- has ridiculous regenerating abilities that allow him to survive and more or less shake off most injuries that would otherwise be fatal (they still hurt tho)
- his personal special ability (aka Drive), Soul Eater, does exactly what it says on the tin: it allows him to absorb souls/life force of living things around him. He's got it mostly under control, but touching him or even staying around him for extended periods of time puts one at risk of him involuntarily sucking the other person's life out of them. Also, using it drastically decreases his own lifespan. Oops.
- should he ever lose control over his abilities, he's in danger of turning into a giant, world-destroying monster, but don't worry. It's fine. He's fine.

Plans: Some people (you know who you are) seem to think he's muscle for hire, so apparently that's a thing now?? Otherwise it's business as usual, being an asshole and threatening to murder people for looking at him funny. And once the housing situation gets resolved, his hobo days might finally come to an end...!

CR-wise, I welcome all of it, be it positive or negative! (I know, I know, very creative.) I'd especially like to find some people patient enough to stick around with Ragna despite his... everything. As much as he wants to keep people at an arm's length, persistence in dealing with him is the key to getting yourself a surprisingly loyal and protective ally. Eventually.

Or just go ahead and antagonize him, that's what everyone in his canon does anyway.

Crime: Treating his roommate like a live-in maid.

Background: Hitman. Shut-in. Man of few words. Doesn't talk about himself and is pretty straightforward in conversations. Lacks tact. Takes some effort to warm up to people, but is friendly-ish despite his appearance.

Abilities: He's a trained assassin, so he's skilled at marksmanship, close quarters combat, and incredibly agile. He's best of the best from a prestigious bloodline in one of the top organizations of the underworld.

Plans: He's going to do better with extrovert types of characters that won't mind bugging him and being nosey. I have no real plans atm, so anything is fine.

Abilities: Kazuki is just a dude... being a hitman he knows how to shoot a gun but is generally a planner. Other than that he can fight a little, and has some hacking skills. His most important skills are, in fact, cooking and cleaning.

Plans: My current plan involves him showing up in a full Santa outfit, so I guess that's the best place to start lmao. Aside from that I am looking to get him involved, he is very extroverted so he's great with both introverts and other extroverts, and he's gonna be looking to find out what the hell is going on and avoid disclosing his crime because Ow, Man, That Hurts. I am open to everything!

Abilities: jinx has shimmer in her bloodstream. which to put it super simple: she has pink eyes and she cries pink tears. she is also very fast, can jump really high, has a high pain tolerance, high alcohol tolerance, and she sees the world in pink.

Plans: my plan is to annoy the fuck out of all of you and question your life choices. but in seriousness, now that jinx's papa is in the game - she will be doing whatever her father has plan for them to do. they are going to go "kingdom" shopping aka attempt to travel through all the villages to see which will be easier to rule over and then go from there. arent they such a silly bunch? thinking they can just rule the world. its kawaii.

now that my health is mostly back on track, i do have a player plot in mind that i want to do and i will see if i can get that under way this month. more on that later once i chat with the mods and if it gets approved and all of that.

Crime: Desertion

Background: Special ops/servant for an assassin family who was so physically and emotionally abused (plus spoilers) that she doesn't really understand feelings or her right to have them. She's very curious about the world and likes noting down things she sees. And she's getting a bit better at people-ing after her canon arc and time with CRAU in Deer Country.

Abilities: She is really good at combat, especially with swords. Can jump higher than is natural. She can handle being still and quiet while observing thing for a very long time.

Plans: I'd really like to get her learning more about being a person and her feelings. Definitely want her to make friends; that's become an IC goal of hers because she doesn't quite understand how that works. Eventually I want to use her crime to properly process some of her worse problems. For the time being, though, I need to finally get her properly settled and starting relationships in the first place.

???: I am so, SO sorry about falling off the face of the Earth in July! Work kicked me hard, the mod uncertainty threw me off, and then I was on vacation. If you want to handwave or reset any CR I tried to start then, I am totally fine with that.

Crime: Being merciless

Background: 300+ yr old homunculus pretending to be a child, with spooky shadow powers and has daddy issues. He spent some time in empatheias and caused massive havoc, using people as sacrifices to "open a Gate" to get home. Obviously failed and he had to learn the concept of living with consequences. He's trying this concept of thinking for himself instead of what Father would do. Just because he's your dad, doesn't mean he's truly family to you.

Abilities:
Hoo boy ok. Pride's shadow has multiple abilities and attributes to them.

• The ability to cut through anything as strong as steel. He cannot cut through harden carbon-based material.


• The ability to control others and change form (Tendrils, sharp spikes, shield, etc). Possession is only possible through a blood relative. So this will likely never come up.


• The ability to consume and assimilate the abilities of others. Nerf or player permission?? idk lol


• His child appearance is just a container to hold the shadows and his true form. Both container and shadows are extremely resilient. He has been hit by a car, mauled by a chimera and still came out without a scratch. Far as I'm aware, he doesn't bleed either since the body is just a container. He starts to fall apart as his shadows are "killed off".


• Able to see beyond the human limit through his shadow. The shadow's range is limited to his container's current position and its surroundings. The length is really ambiguous though, but I say about....the length of a football field at full strength. He can also speak through his shadows. His shadows has also able to cover a great distance in a short amount of time.

He cannot use shadows in complete darkness and requires some source of light. At the same time, sudden flashes of light, like from a flashbomb, will cause the shadows to dissapate.

He gain knowledge of hand-to-hand and unarm combat for self defense purposes during his time in Empatheias.

While not an ability, just a little extra note for others:
In FMA, Xingese are capable of sensing the life flow and energy known as Chi that is present in all living things and the earth itself (the dragon pulse). As Homunculi are made up of thousands of souls trapped in the Philosopher stone, those who can sense the life energy of others will sense this anomaly. Generally the feeling is described as foul, heavy and unsettling. Characters who have similar abilities that can sense life energy may likely notice Pride's odd make-up.

Animals will also react poorly around homunculi. Animal instincts tell them they're a threat and to avoid at all cost.

Plans: Just want to continue from where he left of, which is just learning to be more honest about himself and with what he actually wants. Maybe give a shit about others over himself. He's teetering between wanting to change or stay as he was, so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out while he's here with no one to rely on.

Anything Else?: I am a botanist/ecologist currently pursuing my PhD! As a result I am an enthusiastic tagger but not a particularly fast one. I make up for it by being a shamelessly wordy bitch even in network nonsense.

Character: Ethlyn
Canon: A Song of Ice and Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
Canon Point: Chapter 5, when she and Quan return from being out of your army but they're NPCs and then the dracoknights come up behind them and no matter how hard you try you can't stop them from being cut down!!

Crime: "The crimes of the Grannvale Empire."

Background: Ethlyn was born to a noble house whose founder was divinely blessed to be very good at swords, and her older brother Sigurd (the protagonist) is the current heir to the major part of that blessing. She is married to his BFF Quan and they have a couple of kids together. When Sigurd's quest to rescue a friend snowballed into an accidental conquest of the continent, Ethlyn and Quan were there, wondering how this got all so out of hand. After returning home a while for Quan's responsibilities as prince of Leonster, they rode out to reinforce Sigurd--and then they were ambushed by the king of Leonster's rival nation as they crossed the desert. Ethlyn and Quan died, and their young daughter Altena was captured.

On a more general note, Ethlyn has an overdeveloped sense of responsibility thanks to having to assume her late mother's role in the household at a young age. As a result, Ethlyn is the kind of person who feels like she's doing something actively wrong if she's ever idle. She's always looking for something useful to do, especially if it involves taking care of someone. Ethlyn is something of a self-appointed "mom friend," and mostly that's fine, but she can definitely get fussy and nosy with it.

Abilities:
Healing: magic stick with a glowing rock on the end heals u!! so if your character ever gets hurt you can give her a call.
Sword's: She may not be as divinely blessed as her brother, but she is still an extremely competent swordswoman and makes sure to keep in practice.
Horseback riding: She loves riding and is happy to teach other people how to ride too.

Plans: At the moment, Ethlyn is feeling super weird and on-edge and upset because she is unaware that "unresolved trauma from having died" may not a thing she can just power through by keeping busy. There's also this thing going on where people asking seemingly simple questions throws her for a loop! Because she has gone through life feeling very assured that she's doing the right thing because she means well by doing it and that the world works a certain way (spoiler: this has a LOT to do with why she's dead in canon). So she is starting to feel challenged on a few levels and she still hasn't figured out how to deal with that--and I would love to continue this! Because my ultimate goal with her development is for her to realize how she can be considered culpable for her accus'd crime.

In day-to-day terms, Ethlyn is still running the Arztenritter, and she is going to be actively on the lookout for potential new recruits now that there's been some character turnover. (You know, moreso than usual.) So if your character is a healer, a horserider, or is interested in either of those things in any way, that is an easy route to interacting with her!

Canon Point: Chapter 513, Sabaody Arc

Crime: Pirate is his main crime.

Theft, breaking and entering, property damage, assault, battery, political manipulation, inciting rebellion, war crimes. And a whole host of other things, to boot.

Background: The pirate captain of a crew, he's big on having adventures and basically sailing the world to find a legendary treasure that may or may not exist. (It does, he just doesn't know it yet.) There's a lot so I'll just sum it up as he's a positive, fun loving guy who is very morally gray.

Abilities: Rubberman. He ate a devil fruit and became a rubberman. He's very stretchy. Also, luck, maybe? He has great luck. Some charisma. A beacon of positivity and chaos.

Plans: Just looking for some fun CR with this guy. No concrete plans yet.

Background: Ekko is a grubby street kid turned resistance organizer/fighter. He comes off as pretty self-serious at first blush but the second you scratch beneath the surface he's all joyriding hoverboards and hitting drug kingpin goons with pipes for a good time. He's incredibly nosy and has a short temper, but he's also very compassionate and hard-working, and knows how to have fun (it will probably be illegal fun.) Fancily coded info page here.

Abilities: Genius inventor, does graffiti art, he's not superhuman but he's extremely agile and good in a scrap.

Plans: My favorite CR type in games is messy gremlin teen shenanigans, obviously what Aldrip needs is more underaged drinking and house parties. I'd also love to bounce him off other inventor/engineer types!

I don't have any big plans or concrete directions I'd like to progress Ekko's character development in yet, I just figure sooner-or-later I'll probably try to have him set up a little inventor workspace/junk shop in town. For now he's just getting settled, probably either volunteering at the blacksmith's or at least pestering them into making parts for stuff so he can tinker around and build, or doing mildly unhinged shit like throwing on his gas mask and collecting status effect flowers to weaponize later (hey, waste not want not!)

Crime: Writing a novel

Background: A self-proclaimed genius beautiful girl writer, Sooyoung is a distrustful and selfish person. Warming up to people doesn't come easily to her, but once she does, you won't get a note... instead, she's going to take care of you while still pretending to be the bad guy. Sooyoung enjoys riling people up just for sport, especially when said person gets worked up over her comments. She's very confident and has an affinity for ending up in dangerous/stupid situations (which more often than not she creates herself... in the vein of "don't let anyone ruin your day, ruin it yourself!")

Fun fact, she can write 20k words a day.

Abilities: More detailed info is here, but below you can find the tl;dr version.

▪ Avatar: Sooyoung can make clones of herself, but the caveat is that she has to infuse every clone with at least one memory. In other words, it's absolutely possible for others to see 5 Sooyoungs at the same time, she's definitely going to use this to mess with people.
▪ Eye of Truth: It's a canon thing which makes her aware of people's skill, but here's Sooyoung can be only vaguely aware that someone possesses a special ability. Not going to use that unprompted, though.
▪ Lie Detection: Sooyoung can confirm whether a person she's interacting with is lying or not. She won't use this without permission.
▪ Poker Face: a skill that makes it impossible to tell if she's lying or not. She's a great liar without it, though. I welcome everyone to look through her bullshit.
▪ Black Flames: Sooyoung can summon powerful black flames, manipulate them at will and infuse weapons with them.
▪ Advent of Half-God: her sponsor Abyssal Black Flame Dragon can manifest part of his consciousness into Sooyoung after she recites an incantation. She can use the dragon's powers and becomes a powerful chuuni (and hates it).

Plans: She's just arrived, so Sooyoung's going to take her time settling in and being a menace to people. She's been taken away from her canon at a point when things started to calm down, so obviously she's not very pleased, not to mention that the crime she got accused of is stupid in her opinion. I'm going to mess around with that in the future because as things are for now, she's not entirely aware of what's wrong with writing a novel. This will involve a bunch of orv spoilers, so I need to figure out how to approach this first.

Other than that, I'd love her to eventually warm up to people. It might be easier if you enjoy reading or are a writer, but it's not impossible for other people. She'll just make people APPRECIATE LITERATURE in one way or another.

Also, considering that she's a gremlin, I welcome negative CR with my arms wide open.

Crime: "Mass genocide and failure to treat other living persons with respect."

Background/Personality: Emet-Selch is the main antagonist of the Shadowbringers expansion. Known to most as an 'Ascian', he is considered a paragon amongst others of his kind, along with two others. His current guise, however, is that of the first emperor of the Garlean Empire - Solus zos Galvus. First impressions paint him as a grumpy, dour man who acts a lot older than he looks. But get to know him better and maybe you'll see that he cares more than he lets on.

Abilities: He is functionally a god to most "normal, human" characters. He can create things out of seemingly nothing and is an incredibly strong mage. At least, he was before the nerf by Expiation.

Plans:
I currently have an open log for anyone to tag and meet him. He is a tricky person to work with but he would probably do well against those with varying types of stubborn or no-nonsense personalities.

William G Maryblood | The Faraway Paladin

Crime: Being a monster in human guise

Background/Personality: William was adopted and raised by a family of undead heroes after they rescued him from a group of demons intending to use him as a sacrifice. He grew up isolated from the world, but they taught him everything they knew so that he would be able to survive once he reached the age of maturity and left home. His middle and surname is a tribute to them: Au(G)ustus, Mary, and Blood. William's martial prowess and piety eventually earnt him the honour of being annointed a paladin. It is his life's goal to restore the name of his patron goddess, Gracefeel, and to fight against her sworn enemy, the god of undeath, Stagnate.

Abilities: He possesses the very typical abilities you would associate with a paladin. Wards against toxins, dark magic, the ability to steel his allies against fear etc., and also the power to lay the dead to rest. His physical strength is monstrous. He's not necessarily a spectacular mage but he's very good at adapting lesser spells to situations, which is more important than brute strength (as Gus taught him).

Plans:
He has an open log where he's helping out with the summer festival and also meeting some of the new wildlife around! He's very easy to make friends with and being the very typical paladin archetype he is more than willing to fight for causes he believes in. Come make friends?

Abilities: Silco's just a normal human with normal abilities. He is highly ruthless, cunning and manipulative.

Plans: Silco is going to build a new empire for himself and his daughter. He will likely be starting a small business like a distilling business or weapons manufacturing. That means he's going to need some employees. And muscle. For some weird reason, castmates don't like Silco. I can't think of why.....

He has a nervous breakdown, dyes his hair, gets addicted to superpower meth for like a week, and makes snarky novelty t-shirt slogans his entire personality. Also a lil bit homicidal. Dragged kicking and screaming through a sorta-redemption arc for ~6 years. Grows up to be a pretentious insecure 19 year old nerd who still talks like somebody who watches Rick & Morty and says you're not smart enough to understand it, but now he's less homicidal.

Abilities: Telepathy, telekinesis, genius, making pretty much everyone immediately regret talking to him

Plans: Bring me all of your terrible gremlins. It's karma. Also maybe punch him in the face? He needs friends but he's Bad at that.

Crime: Rebellion

Background: The son of the master of creation magicks himself and possibly the smartest researcher of the unsundered world of Etheirys, Erichthonios started off life... not only slow in thought-processing, but surprisingly mediocre at magicks in comparison.

Little did he know, there was a very good reason for that.

Trigger warnings for this character include human experimentation, child abuse and neglect. In a world that was basically paradise for mankind in his time.

Abilities:
Can create stuff out of his own energies. Not as awesome at it as Elidibus or Emet-Selch.
Very skilled at shackling/binding magicks due to his father's intense training when he was smol.
Can transform, but much smaller here than in canon. His transformation is decked out in chains. Lots and lots of chains. He's also got nifty Abilities while transformed.
Can teleport.

Plans: Planning on the home and traveling life with his bffs he never got in canon. Research, investigations, and just being a generally helpful soul. He's a cinnamon roll at heart.
